http://www.collegefootballnews.com/sec/2005_Pages/SEC_Schedule.htm LSU As an SEC power, the road trips are as easy as can be hoped for with only a date at Alabama to really worry about. Arizona State, Tennessee, Florida and Auburn make for an amazing home slate, but it wouldn't be a shock for a 1-2 start. Nastiest Road Game at Alabama Cupcake at Vanderbilt Make or Break Game at Alabama
1-2 wouldn't be a shock? As other people have pointed out in this forum, the media is giving much too much love to the Volunteers. They will be coming off their game at Florida. Those games get just kinda sorta nasty. Meanwhile we'll be on our third home game to open the season and just hitting our stride. Sam Keller played well in relief for Walter down the stretch, but unless we lay a monster egg (at home against a pac-10 team after what happened with oregon st last year, pfff) there's no way Arizona State wins that game.
The VOLS will have a very good team, but not a great team. And over the past year, the VOLS have been pretty inconsistent. They looked good against the Aggies, but barely beat Kentucky and Vandy to close out their regular season. Lost again in the Georgia Dome. In fact, for their fourth straight loss in Atlanta. I do expect the VOLS to beat Florida, but not Georgia or LSU. If Tennessee actually loses to Florida, the LSU/UT game will amount to a desperation game for the VOLS.
CFN is all hot over Alabama, too. They fawned over their recruitng class, too. 1-2? Gotta love it! 1-2 may be the LSU scores/ Arizona State and Tennesse punt ratios after the first three possessions of those games. We're heading into a "damned if you, damed if you don't" season. If the good guys roll (which they will), it will be "they're supposed to" and if we falter (anything under 9-2), here comes "same ole LSU". The Times-Picyernose is already starting. Bill Bumgarner decried Sunday that 14 signees won't cut it next year, while missing completely out on the fact LSU only had a very few scholarships to give out. No lie, Bill, if LSU only fills 1/2 of the scholarships next year, something bad is happening. Unlike Tulane, I think Miles' oldest nephew isn't quite ready to sign. LSU succeeds in keeping kids, that's bad, no future depth. LSU has 25-30 scholarships, that's bad, no one going to class. I know its better than it was in 1999, but geeze. I now buy into the anti-LSU media thing.
Sam Keller played well in relief for Walter down the stretch, but unless we lay a monster egg (at home against a pac-10 team after what happened with oregon st last year, pfff) there's no way Arizona State wins that game.[/QUOTE] I'll be honest! Zona St. worries me a heck of a lot more than Tennessee does! Zona St. is that sort of run and shoot type team, and with a makeshift secondary, I think our pass defense may be a little lacking the 1st few games of the year.
I think alot of the media is just trying to cover their a$$. Let's be honest, nobody can truly know how this team will adjust to all the changes and how good we will be next year. These writers are supposed to know what they are talking about and have to show both sides so that they can say they were right regardless of what happens. And if we get a 10 win season, I don't care what any reporters are saying - it is a good season. I've said a few times that Alabama is going to be a strong challenge for the SEC West next year. With a good QB they will be a force. There is no conspiracy against LSU in the media! I wish we would quit emailing ESPN's Ivan Maisel about it too. It makes us look like self-important idiots! Whenever there's positive stuff about LSU, it's "Finally, we get some respect." AHHH! Reporters just can't win with some of ya'll.
I agree Cparso, there is no media conspiracy. Stupid media people but no conspiracy. CFN is guilty of looking only at UT's last game, like many are with all teams, and using that game for most of their basis of how good the team will be next season. They will do that with USC, Texas, Iowa, Texas Tech, Minnesota, UGA, etc. They will forget that all of these teams had bad and mediocre games, especially UT and USC coming down the stretch. Zona St worries me also because of the points they are capab;e of putting on the board. But we should be able to outscore them if our defense is not quite ready to play like we have been accustomed too. But we will not have a makeshift secondary in my opinion. That insinuates that we will have people playing out of position due to the inability of others to step up or due to injuries. We have one heck of a lot of talent at CB and will be very good there I think. and our safeties will be very, very good. Bill Bumgarner just didn't look at the facts probably and the facts are that we have only a few to give, our attrition was very, very low(4-5 players so far I think), we had 2 players transferring in and 3 grayshirts and the overall quality of this recruiting class in-state is low. I'm sure Miles could have squeezed a couple more in some kind of way but why do it if next year's class is loaded. Also, he is used to Saban saying every year that we wouldn't bring in that many players and then going out and signing more than 25. No reason to do that this year. And Bama is our nastiest road game since they are the only team we play on the that should have a winning record next season.
Dittos... Sometimes it seems that some of us are closer to Aubarn fans than we like to think. Quit all of the "media conspiracy" crap and let the team do it on the field. If they perform like we hope they will and are capable of then no "conspiracy" will keep us from Pasadena. :champs: :crystal: :champs:
kellar played in the az game late, and the bowl game.. he is pretty good. If the lsu d can get to him things will turn out just fine. LSU always seems to have trouble with good passing teams..... I went to the ASU spring game and kellar ran the O better in that game than walter....
