If AU loses to Tenn, I do not think it will happen, but if does I do not think that they will get a BCS bid. They will be the best 1 loss team in the nation and the SEC will get screwed out of a bid, while the Pac-10 will get two teams in the BCS. The SEC is getting totally screwed this year and I believe that it is time to think about the SEC's current position. If AU wins and goes undefeated in the SEC, which everyone regards as the toughest conference, they will still not play for the NC and the SEC will only get 1 team in the BCS. If they lose, Tenn will go to the Sugar and once again the SEC will only get 1 team in the BCS. How can the best conference in the nation only get 1 team in the BCS, while the Pac-10 gets 2 and without Utah the Big XII would also get 2?
Even if Auburn losses the SEC will still get a BCS bid to the Sugar, that's locked up and is the first of the criteria used. Just like LSU wasn't in the top 8 in 2002 when we played Illinois. And no other team in the country deserves to beat out Cal IMo.
I think Cal is just as good as any team right now. They beat USC up and down the field and came up just short at the goal line. They deserve a trip to the Rose Bowl.
If Auburn plays a tight game, and gets edged, I do not think they will drop very far, and should remain in the BCS top 6, similar to OU last year. They will likely fall farther than OU did, but not far enough to knock them out of a BCS game. I honestly can't see them falling below 5, and they shouldn't drop that far, unless they completely fall asleep at the wheel.
wait a minute... I thought the Sugar took the SEC champion automatically if it is not the NC game. Therefore, should Tenn beat Auburn, Tenn would go to the Sugar. Then Auburn does get left out if all the other bowls are already set. This is what happened to Tenn in 2001, isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong here. It would be better NOT to have played for the SEC title if you indeed lose the SECCG. Oklahoma was a rare exception last year in the Big XII title game.
The only way Auburn would still be in a BCS Bowl game would be if they did not drop below Cal in the BCS standings after the loss. That could happen but i doubt it since Cal has lost only to USC and and Auburn's loss would be to a 2 loss team. Utah is gauranteed a spot in the BCS Bowls as are the conference champs. It would be a battle between Cal, Texassss and Auburn for the remaining spot. I think Cal would get it.
