Re: Re: Re: SEC Champions The Coaching staff needs to realize that when he's off, they should pull him out for a series or two to "settle him down". Performance "anxiety" in athletes is a terrible and often destructive block. Often, just a single series out and the Focus returns. Simple progressive relaxation techniques or "rituals" have been used by kickers and QBs with amazing results in the Pros. It's starting to catch on in college.
Matt was pressured more than normal. Ole Miss' defense played a good game. They were up for the game, that's for sure. I just hope Arkansas doesn't have that same attitude.
Matt know he made mistakes. Penalties didn't help either. Ole Miss has an outstanding defense. I really underestimated them. They were all over Mauck most of the game. HOWEVER, with all the mistakes that were made, our defense only gave up 1 touchdown. That's a lot ot say. Yea, we could've lost it, and if we did, I'd still be happy as hell to say I'm a Tiger fan, but we didn't. WE WON. Ole Miss can say if they made those field goals, they could've won, but we can say if we didn't "GIVE" them an easy 7 points to begin the game, they wouldn't have. The way I see it is there was a lot of pressure on both ends of the ball. Both teams made mistakes which canceled each other out. They might be a little more focused now come Friday. The game is in Baton Rouge right? ESPN was saying it was in Little Rock last night.
ok, i was at the game, yes, he didn't play his best game but one of the ints was not his fault, the play call was for a quick slant, the right tackle was suppost to chop the DE down, he didn't, the DE jumped up and picked it off. So yes he didn't play well but its not always his fault.
Look, it's not like Mauck fell out of bed yesterday morning and decided to suck. What he does or doesn't do from here on out falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff, for I believe he struggled for the most part because of what the Rebels did on defense scheme and execution-wise more than anything. Mostly execution, I bet, which means we really underestimated what is apparently a rapidly-improving Ole Miss defense. Take Matt's first INT, for example: looking at the slo-mo replay, you see that Clayton is slowed by a defender as he tries to go down the line on that play. The defender was smart enough or coached well enough to not let Clayton roll down the line untouched, so he got a little bump which obviously threw off the timing of the play. I'm guessing everyone from Saban to Fisher to Mauck did not expect Clayton to be bumped like that, for one thing. I, for one, would like to see us get away from those stupid, gimmicky plays early on in our initial drive of the game (seen it before in other games as well), and just set the table by running the ball more in that first drive...especially when we have the ball inside our own ten yard-line as we did yesterday!!!
