Simply put, I would like your help to do away with the BCS. If we could put all rivalries and differences aside for one moment and look at what just happened to an SEC team. Auburn is being denied the right to play for a national title, after going undefeated, and playing in an SEC championship game. Truth be told.... if it was you, you would be on the outside looking in too. I would be furious that it happened and would try to help in any way possible. Unfortunately, I'm not a millionaire, or an SEC president, or Mike Slive... I am just a fan whose only weapon is a voice. Maybe it is futile, but I have written a simple e-mail that I would like for you to copy and send to your president, or perhaps you would like to write your own. The point is, I know of no other means of action. The presidents of the SEC have power, they are the sounding board of Mike Slive, and it is in his best interest and their best interest to work for the good of the schools in the SEC. So, I'm asking if you could do this. Simply cut and paste then email. It isn't so much the meaning of the message as it is the participation. One more favor..... could one of you please post the email address of your president? It would be a big help. Thank you all in advance..... below is the email: As an alumni of ( insert school here ), and a fan of the SEC, this is a letter I thought would never need to be written, but the injustice to an allied member of the SEC has me greatly concerned. As I am sure you are well aware, Auburn is being denied the right to play for the National Championship, even though they have went through the entire season, including the SEC Championship game, undefeated. Under the current BCS system no SEC team is safe from the same fate, including ours. Year in and year out the SEC has proven to be the toughest conference in the land, this year included. We have five teams ranked in the top 25 and potentially 4 teams who can finish with 10 or more wins. Thirty percent of our games have been decided by five points or less. This tells you the nature of our conference. It is my duty as a fan of this great conference, and your duty as our president to lead the charge for change. This system is broken. Even though it has fulfilled its duty to pair the number 1 and number 2 BCS teams in a championship game, the question remains did it get the right two? That is a question which seems to be asked a lot this time of year. I am sure that this is a debate with which you have had to deal with on more than one occasion, but sir, the time to make a change is now. Do not let a situation like this occur again. You along with the other SEC presidents and SEC commissioner Mike Slive owe it to not only us, but to the players and coaches, to find a system that is just. Thank you for your time and consideration, ( your name )
Probably right... but I wouldn't feel like much of a fan if I didn't at least try. ************************************************************ Good luck in the bowl game... though I don't think you will need it. You guys have looked like world beaters your last few games.
without the bcs USC plays in the rose bowl and goes unchallenged for the NC At least they have to play OU with the way our present system works. I would say to do away with the BCS f there is a p;ayoff type system in its place. And by the way it was the AP and the Coaches pole that screwed Au
With no BCS...... Rose Bowl--USC vs Michigan Fiesta Bowl--OU vs UGA Sugar Bowl--Au vs Texas Orange Bowl--Pitt vs VA Tech This is one of the several scenario's that could have played out w/o the BCS. USC would waltz into a National Championship by beating an average Michigan team again. Some these matchups may be might have been a little different but what is certain is that OU, Auburn and USC would all be in different Bowl games for sure. The BCS does suck, but it's still better than what we had before. Much better.
cajdav has got it right. when you step back and take a look at it, what we have now is better than the old way. even though i hate to see an SEC team get screwed (yes, even Auburn) what we have now is better than the old way. I think controversy two years in a row has got to move the NCAA to implement a plus one championship game. It's the simplest solution and would keep the bowl system in tact for the old liners. good luck Auburn, don't let the Hokies ruin this controversy. AND GEAUX TIGERS!!!!! "....and NO sprinkles! For every sprinkle I find, I shall kill you!!!" -------Stewie------FG
Perhaps I'm naive, but I think if Auburn makes a strong showing in the Sugar Bowl, finishes 13-0 and finishes third (all likely), something will be done. Why? The SEC is the epicenter of college football, and an undefeated SEC team getting shut out of a title game will have reprecussions, far moreso than if, say, USC were odd team out (nobody cares what the Pac-10 schools think in any sport).
