Regardless of how the father operates, Chris Smelley in the hands of Steve Spurrier is going to be interesting. I would rate the 2006 SEC QBs as such: 1. Smelley 2. Stafford 3. Mustain 4. McElroy 5. Tebow Spurrier was wise to recruit Mo Brown. Rice and Brown are going to tear up the SEC East. Next best will be Stafford and Tony Wilson and Kris Durham. Richt went out and cherry picked soft hands this year. Tebow will be OK, but he's going to get the crap beat out of him in the short term.
Maybe there will be a shake-up at Tennessee this year and PhatPhil will start Jim Bob Cooter against Smelley. I'd tune in.
The Marines are always rough on visitors, Terry. Don't worry about them. I appreciate the info on Smelley.
QUOTE: ----------------------------------- I would rate the 2006 SEC QBs as such: 1. Smelley 2. Stafford 3. Mustain 4. McElroy 5. Tebow --------------------------------------- Sorry Fellas, but you forgot that Auburn got an early commit from the # 10 QB in the country - Neil Caudle is certainly rated higher than Smelley & McElroy. I think it now looks like 6 SEC teams landed big-name QBs.
Is this real? Stafford is clearly the best of the bunch, the best QB in the nation this year. Tebow has everything but the polish for a QB, that will come because he's smart and works hard. Mustain has the physical gifts, will probably get a chance to play next year due to promises and his OC being his HS coach, but Dick will be a hurdle. Smelley looks to have the physical tools, but I haven't seen any of his games. McElroy looks weak, but has time to beef up and arm strength is not the end all be all in college.
Smelley already has good footwork, a super quick release, and is very smart. Then match him up with Sidney Rice and Mo Brown while Spurrier devises an offensive scheme for the group. The reality is, South Carolina is going to be a force in the SEC East.
