If only my parents had gotten down to business some years earlier I'd actually have some real memories of Pete. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with this kind of handle. He makes it seem like playing is as easy as walking. LSU bball could sure use another coming of Pete. Anyone know if he still holds all those NCAA scoring records? Also, was his pop a legit college coach or was it just pure luck that we landed him, and thus his son? I believe he become the LSU coach the same year Pete graduated high school, no? This little mix just gets sicker as it goes on. So without further yapping, here it is enjoy! Oh yea, I forgot how fugly those old Atlanta Hawks jersies were until watching this. Makes the old Tampa Bay Bucs uniforms look like some styling threads in comparison. And wouldn't you know it. There's a college only tape! Great videos! Are those ugly Hawks jerseys the ones the kids love because they say 'Pistol' on the back?
Yea but I figured I made up for it in the post b/c 1. LSU isn't in the tourney. 2. The thread is about an LSU basketball legend. and 3. I provided some down-right kick ass footage of said legend. Oh, and since you're all lazy bastards, I went ahead and answered some of my own questions::thumb: Oh yea, this was all done back in the time of NO 3 point line and I believe 3 years of varsity eligibility. Makes his records even more unreal. ALL-TIME NCAA RECORDS: POINTS: Season: 1,381 - Pete Maravich, Career: 3,667 - Pete Maravich, (3 SEASONS ONLY) Average Per Game (Season): 44.5 - Pete Maravich, Average Per Game (Career): 44.2 - Pete Maravich, Combined Points of 2 Opposing Players in a Game: Dan Issel, KU 51 & Pete Maravich, 64 GAMES SCORE 50+ POINTS: Season: 10 - Pete Maravich, Consecutive Games: 3 - Pete Maravich, Career: 28 - Pete Maravich, GAMES SCORING 40+ POINTS: Career: 56 - Pete Maravich, FIELD GOALS: Season: 522 - Pete Maravich, Career: 1,387 - Pete Maravich, FREE THROWS: Game: 30 of 31 - Pete Maravich, I have no problem with basking in past glory after stinking up the season like we did this year. Here's to the Men getting a guard and making the tourney in '08, and to the Lady Tigers getting a quality new head coach! (wish Pokey could have stayed personally).
I gotta say... After watching these videos, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed being his teammate. I can't tell you how many jammed fingers, missing teeth, busted noses, and blooper reels I would have racked up by his passes hitting me when I wasn't expecting the ball. When he had the ball your eyes better be GLUED to it and you better have been expecting a pass b/c my God his fakes were insane. Even at 100% vigilance I'm sure he'd a popped my unsuspecting ass in the face with a few balls. Like I said, I'd have made quite a blooper reel if I were a teammate of his.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8qUZILi8IM Did you guys notice the Tiger stripes in the center court logo at the 4:27 mark of this video? That was really nice, I've never seen that before.
Has anyone ever seen Bo Lamar play from USL? Everytime I bring up Pete Maravich or LSU basketball, this guy at my work always starts talking about Bo Lamar. Was he anywhere close to the Pistol?
for those who use firefox there are quite a few extensions nowadays to download videos from sites like this. media pirate is pretty good. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/4318/ right click and save as, then rename to .flv extension and save. but be sure to add .flv as the extension in order to view it. sometimes you can rename as you save it, sometimes you have to wait til its downloaded. those who use IE, well you dont deserve to download it anyhow. pimpfish is another i used before but its a bit too much hassle from what i remember.
Ok, first post. I saw Bo Lamar play for USL when they played Nicholls back in the old Gulf States Conference. Although he was a great player, he could not have carried Pete's jock. Pete averaged over 44 points per game for three years, in the day when there was no three point shot. No one has come close since. And, as the video's show, he was an absolute magician with the basketball. Bo was a great scorer, but he was no Pete Maravich.
