as some of you know, Scotch is my alcohol of choice. I'm fairly new to the Scotch drinking world, so lets hear some of y'all favorites. I'm not even close to being rich, so lets keep the price of a bottle in double digits I've tried (in order of preference): DeWar's Special Reserve 12 years(and I can no longer find this stuff) The GlenLivet 12 years (would like to try 18 years) Chivas Regal 12 years (in process of drinking my 1st glass as we speak, so it may move up or down with time) DeWar's White Label Johnnie Walker Red If anyone knows of a place that sells DeWar's Founder's reserve 18 years, PLEASE let me know location and price. I'm pretty sure the DeWar's Signature line is out of my price range, but info on that would be nice too.
i'm not really a scotch (and by that i mean i drink bourbon alot more) guy but i have a lawyer friend that swears by mccallan (sp?) 12.
If you prefer blended scotches, then you probably won't like my favorites. I lived in the UK for awhile. I developed a taste for the "peatier" scotches. Here's a list of stuff to try if you're game. Listed from easiest to drink to "peatiest". Macallan Balvenie Dalwhinnie Oban Laphroaig Honestly, Laphroaig I had to be in the mood for. Not a scotch for sipping LOTs of IMO. My absolute favorite ended up being Dalwhinnie. All of these are so good that buying the youngest bottles is just fine. Most <$50 a bottle. None over $70, I don't think. I haven't priced it in a long time.
I don't drink scotch but my uncles like J&B JET. They only make it overseas now. Very hard to find. Has anyone ever tried it?
How bout some 100-year-old Scotch? http://cbs5.com/watercooler/Antarctica.lost.whiskey.2.1316807.html
A company called Compass Box makes a few different varieties. I like one called Asyla. I think it is in the $50-$60 range. It's quite unique.
I had a glass of Johnny Walker Gold once. Its a blend but some of the scotch in it is supposed to be 250 years old
