This. Whether we want to admit it or not, racism has always been prevalent in America, and actually went a long way towards shaping the country as we know it today. I wish that we lived in a country that didn't require laws to prevent racial discrimination, but that just ain't the case. It literally took us 100 years to start treating people who were sold into servitude and freed like actual human beings. You can argue that Scalia's comments were taken out of context if you think that's important. But to me, there is no context that would make anything that he said acceptable. Fuck him. I hope he dies so someone with a brain can take his place.
I was not even familiar with the Voting Rights Act so I went look it up and skimmed over it so don't crucify me if I'm wrong but do comment. In reading that, is it possible he's trying to stop people from voting who are actually doing so illegitimately? As in illegals having a voter registration card/number? Is it possible he's not saying it shouldn't cover what it was "intended for" but that it also shouldn't be abused to let people walk up and vote on election day? Or is there no way that is what he means/meant? Sincere question. I'm at work and will check back later.
Around here on Election Day. The dead literally rise from their graves to vote. We need voter ID. One girl got caught voting for her auntee and grammaw cuz "theys didnt feels like cumin themsevs"
yes lets change the subject to the rare instance of voter fraud in this country. That definitely counters the argument for the voting rights act. You guys win again. (and while at it add a little splash of racism to the example)-nice didnt expect anything less from you guys. keep up the great work.
I can be a little racist if I want. Seems blacks can get away with anything they want to. Blacks have affirmative action, Jet and Ebony magazine. NAACP. Miss Black America, Martin Lawrence and Malcolm X. All we have is the KKK ,Deadliest Catch, david allan cole and Archie Bunker. I'm jealous
The difference in everything that you listed above and reality is that any white person can go pick up a copy of Jet or Ebony any time they want, whites join the NAACP every single day.....Miss Black America allows white contestants too, but none sign up.....and frankly, I like Martin Lawrence. I've never agreed with how Malcolm X went about his business, always a bigger fan of Dr. King, but even his movement didn't exclude whites from joining the cause. For centuries white people have excluded blacks, demeaned them, enslaved them, spit at them, told them they weren't worth a whole vote, made them use different bathrooms and restaurants and made them sit at the back of the bus. None of these things are in our too distant past. Trying to equate what you perceive to be black racism in today's society with the plight of black people since the dawn of man you are not going to get very far on the sympathy bus, at least not from me. Does racism exist from every angle? Sure it does....matter of fact, I believe we are all a little partial to our own kind, and that extends farther than just the color of our skin....it goes for the sexes also, and religions, and nationalities. In fact, if you can think of a way to slice and dice society you will find bigotry and bias....just the way it is. That said, the second we throw up our hands and say, "oh well, if you can't beat'em, join'em" we become less of a civilized society.
It's funny you guys bring this up because the only prosecuted cases of voter fraud during the 2012 election were from Republican groups. In fact, right leaning groups tried claiming voter fraud in Ohio and Pennsylvania but even their own investigators could not produce credible evidence that voter fraud actually took place. Further, the Republican effort to create voter ID laws three months before the election could be called voter fraud because of the timing. If these people were genuinely serious about voter ID laws they would still be pursuing that cause, yet they are not because it was only a last ditch effort to prevent people from voting who they figured would not vote Republican. Matter of fact, I am willing to bet that we will not hear another thing about voter ID laws until abotu 2-3 months before the 2014 congressional elections. I would also add that if Republicans continue to ignore the will of 90% of the electorate, they will need those voter ID laws to mediate their losses in the 2014 elections.
If the KKK were to stand in front of an election facility with clubs. Would it be voter intimidation? I'll treat any person good until they try and pull the " It's because I'm black" bs. Some of the most racists people I know are black. I also don't fall for the politically correct bull. PC gets people killed. Common sense and profiling can keep you from getting mugged or killed.
