Charles Cook, the well-known political analyst says, "The package was so aggressive that it allowed virtually all Democrats and potentially a decent number of liberal and moderate Republicans to feel fairly comfortable to attack it. There is a lot of ammunition in there." And while a dozen Democrats supported Sapling's budget 2 years ago, NONE have stepped forward to support yet more of what they now recognize as utter nonsense. Also, McCain and Chafee have come out against the current plan, and Chafee in fact has joined Dianne Feinstein in wanting to present legislation to PREVENT more tax cuts. Bottom line is that the GOPers DON'T have the votes and Sapling's proposal in DOA in the Senate.
Let's see what the Demo's propose and see how far it gets. Maybe higher taxes , that's it, we will tax ourselves into prosperity!! Isn't that a great idea Tom? Maybe we can disband the military and send Jimmy Carter out into the world to protect us. Heck "Can't we just get along"?
Actually, the have made their proposal already, sorry you missed it The Democrats proposal was to reduce taxes on the lower and middle class, not the wealthiest Americans. They also mentioned reducing taxes in the Social Security tax area which is what I said was the best place to reduce taxes 2 years ago. Personally, I was for paying down the debt w years ago, which is what you so-called fiscal conservatives SHOULD have been for. But of course, you love to use that GOP Mastecard, don't you? But the surplus came from the Social Security trust fund, and that is where the money should have gone back to the payers into that fund. That also gives a FAIR TAX CUT since despite the nonsense rhetoric from the rightist wingnuts in this country, the working poor DO PAY FEDERAL TAXES. Since the taxes stopped accueing after salaried income hits a level for a particular year, it is also a more regressive tax than income tax. Anyway, the Democrats released their proposal the day before Sapling put out his garbage ideas.
