from the advocate: Love is a battlefield. “What was accomplished at LSU was special to us,” Saban said. “We have respect for the institution and the people who are there now. “We have no ill feelings toward anybody. It was not our intention to create any of this by leaving there. It was not a personal thing. It was strictly a professional decision. We learned about ourselves, made a mistake in terms of what we did (going to the Miami Dolphins) and you can’t go back.” Has anyone else noticed how Saban has started to refer to himself as "we"? This is the second time I have heard him do this. I like to refer to this phenomena as the "fourth person point of view". He didnt do this as LSU. It's a little unsettling.
Curious, how do you find this to be unsettling? It's not the first, or the second time I've heard/read the "we" reference. It's something he has used since early January and by all indications it is he and his wife = we. He did have some interesting comments about a former Admin. Asst. at LSU and some vandalism...we all have some crazy fans, don't we?HOOVER | Although University of Alabama coach Nick Saban has been asked numerous times about his job changes over the years, Thursday at SEC Media Days he admitted to regional and national press he had made a mistake in leaving LSU for the Miami Dolphins three years ago. http://www.tidesports.com/article/20070727/NEWS/70726018/1011
We need to start at least one more Saban thread before the season starts. Maybe I'll start a few more today...
i see no reason for a coach to continuously reference his wife regarding football decisions, except to share the burden of criticism for his choices. its kind of bush league. no one else does this.
In his defense, he's not talking about which running back to start or whether to switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4. He's talking about whether or not to leave a job to take another, which is definitely a family decision.
Glenn Dildeaux recieved info that the tires were not slashed as he stated and the air was just let out of the tires of the former Administrative assisstant, Thompson. http://www.bayoubengalsblog.blogspot.com/
He is not including his wife in his statements as a means of getting her to share the criticism. He is simply stating that any decision he makes involves his family. That is true of every coach.
What was interesting was his statement that leaving LSU for Miami was a mistake. Of course, we all knew that, but it was still interesting he made the admission.
