Here is proof that the annual Saban saga is affecting recruiting: http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/121604/spo_lsurecruit001.shtml Here is a quote from the article: --- Black, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive tackle, committed to LSU in mid-August. He reaffirmed his pending choice on Tuesday on www.Rivals.com, saying "I'm stuck with LSU, those are my boys and I want to be a Tiger." Told Wednesday of Saban's discussion with Miami, Black's enthusiasm diminished a bit. "That's very surprising to me," said Black, who had not heard of the Saban-Miami announcement as of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was scheduled for an in-home visit later in the day by LSU offensive line coach Stacy Searels. "I thought he'd be there for a while. That leaves me wondering a little bit about what I'm going to do. It will definitely have something to do with my decision if he does leave. ---
If he stays at LSU, you think this "saga" will affect recruiting? Has this annual saga hurt recruiting in the past?
This sort thing is a big reason why Jimbo Fisher will be a finalist for the job, should Saban leave. Aside from his talents and abilities, fans will freak when these "otherwise LSU leans" start squawking about decommitting due to the coaching change. Naturally, they'll pump up Jimbo as a guy who's ready to be a HC at this level (being ready to be a HC at a top 10 program is another question entirely, but these folks will just paper over that distinction) and someone who knows how to recruit "the Saban way". What a leap of faith handing the keys of this big a program to a newbie HC. I think the fact that the likes of Cincy and Miss St. were sniffing around Jimbo last year reflects the reality that most others don't think he's top-shelf material just yet...but, he'll make a few skittish recruits and some shortsighted lettermen happy, so let's keep him! I'm going to start having Mike Archer nightmares soon enough... :dis:
Perilloux commits to Texas and everybody says forget that, he's coming to LSU. Miami Dolphins express an interest in Saban and suddenly RP is gone? Do you read what you post? Get real.
You're right. I didn't read my post. I meant to say that if Saban leaves, Perilloux will not sign. It won't be just because the Dolphins expressed interest. If you think otherwise, then you're uninformed.
Supposedly a players dad told... a radio station somewhere in La. (my buddy works in the SID business at a college in La.) and said that Saban told his players that Butch Davis will be the next coach at LSU. I really didnt want to post that seeing how you can believe anything until you actually here it from the horses mouth, but I wanted to let you guys know that. This is my first of hopefully many post on here and look forward to many conversations with everyone! Geaux Tigers!
You miss the point. Why does RP's commitment to Texas do nothing to diminish the possibility that he's coming to LSU? Whether Saban leaves does nothing to change the fact that Perilloux committed to Texas. If he doesn't come here, it's because he decided to go to Texas months ago.
Well...... to add to the 'rumor mill' I heard that Ryan will come if Saban goes!!! Don't know what that is about but I'd much rather keep Saban, thank you. Ryan's a headcase anyway.
