This excerpt from Peter King at SI, in making his NFL predictions: North 1. Green Bay, 9-7: The Pack is too tough for this weak division. 2. Minnesota, 8-8: DT Chris Hovan: The league's next weirdo superstar. 3. Chicago, 6-10: I am officially throwing out the first Nick Saban rumor. 4. Detroit, 4-12: Bad sign: Steve Mariucci is mainlining Grecian Formula. The link. And this excerpt from SI's Don Banks: • Chicago's Dick Jauron: Ever since Philly ended Chicago's dream season in the 2001 playoffs, the vibe just has not been good in the Windy City. Jauron and Bears GM Jerry Angelo have been a shot-gun marriage from day one, and Chicago's personnel moves of late could at best be described as curious. They seem more geared toward the future than winning now. Translation: Get ready for the Nick Saban watch. The link. Couldn't this wait until at least mid-season? :dis:
They say that literally every year. Its just the way it works when you have such a gifted coach on board. I think Saban has worked too hard here to leave so soon...no way.
Then I can uncross my arms and stop rocking back and forth while reciting over and over, "Nick Saban, can't leave us, he just can't leave us?"
My email to Peter King - He is an idiot. Dear Mr. King I noticed you are starting your Nick Saban rumors again. You were so dead on accurate on your last "I will bet a bowl of Gumbo Nick Saban is in the NFL next year" garbage. I was curious if we could now get some Boudin and a Hurricane to go with our Gumbo we never got (or a retraction) Us Tiger fans really wish you guys would do just a small tad of research before typing this junk. OF course research and accuracy has never really been SI or ESPN's specialty. Keep up the good work ! Geaux Tigers
Gotta disagree that he won't leave for a while. If the Bears throw enough $ at him he will be packed and gone in a heart beat......stop kidding yourselves.
I don't know what kind of money the Bears would be willing to pay Saban now but if Nick stays here and keeps improving the program in 3 or 4 years some NFL team would give him a better deal than even Spurrier has now woth the Redskins.
Gentlemen: I’m not being a smart ass with this post. I’m as excited about the past three years and the future of LSU as anyone of you. Jerks like this guy has nothing else to write about, so he starts a rumor out of pure amusement. We enable his ass by keeping it going. I can sense in the tone that some of you are like I use to be. Trying to convince myself that Nick would not leave. The fact is not one of us can control Nick leaving for the NFL or another college for that matter. I may screw this up, but I once heard that of the things we worry about 50% never happens, and the 50% that does happen, we cannot control. I don’t know Nick Saban personally, but from what I’ve read about him and heard him say, he is an honest person that cares about his players and coaches. What percentage of this years freshman class do you think asked him about his future at LSU? I’m willing to bet that JR and the young men that decided against Miami asked that question and made their decision on his answer. Nick is no D.F., and if he did leave I would be just as disappointed as any of you and would have to say thank you Nick Saban for bringing our program back to life. There is an upside when or if Nick leaves. He has set a new standard for a football coach at LSU. I hope I have not offended any of you with this post, but we have 11 regular games, SECCG, a bowl game and recruiting season ahead. We have much more to look forward to than our coach leaving for the bears who have yet to play their first real game of the season. Just say FIDO (Forget it, Drive on) to this Jerk. What is next on the agenda? ARIZONA WILDCATS!!! Let’s Geaux Tigers….
Every coach in the SEC is going to leave one day soon. Nick will be moving on to the NFL for double his salary. Most of the rest will leave because they were fired. This is such a non-issue.
