The local sports talk show in Houston has Saban on every Thursday morning for about 5-10 minutes during the season. It's great exposure for recruiting and there were a couple of topics that caught my attention from today. When Saban was asked about Webster's performance this year and if the "hype was possibly too great during the offseason," Saban mentioned that the Miss St game was the first time he's seen Webster play up to his potential this year. He said Webster has been battling injuries, something I was unaware of. Does anyone know what types of injuries he has? After Saban's interview, one of the hosts said he was talking to an NFL scout that said Webster's stock may be dropping and that his 40 time may get extra scrutiny if the struggles continue. The host said he wouldn't be surprised if Travis Daniels ends up being the better pro. My personal opinion is that both will end up having successful NFL careers, possibly both as starters. When Saban was asked about what LSU needed to do again that they did last year vs. Georgia, he began by staing the obvious need to affect Greene. He also said that last year the offense could consistently get positive plays, 3-5 yds, that kept them out of 3rd and long. He said the Bulldog D thrives on pinning their ears back on 3rd and long and that we'd have to stay out of those situations. One of the hosts then mentioned that some believe Georgia is too agressive and are vulnerable to getting beat deep. Saban responded by saying that you always need to take a few chances against an agressive D and run misdirection when you can. He did say, however, that their D is "sound" in their techniques and there aren't any holes to exploit.
I doubt if Corey Webster will get tested very much on Saturday. Even if he has an injury, Georgia will not go after the LSU corners. But, Jack Hunt will not be playing D on Saturday and Georgia knows it. Corey Webster will just have to make sure that he can tackle Leonard Pope.
I have to disagree with that entirely about UGA not going after our conrers. Green loves to throw the quick fade route from anywhere on the field when he see's a blitz and we'll see him throw it several times Saturday to his big wideouts. It may not appear to be a bomb because he throws more of a touch pass but if they get a step behind the DB's in can go a long way. We will be the first team UGA has faced this year that plays a lot of bump and run so expect to see Green try it.
Pretty good summary, 99. I, too, was listening. I'll add that Saban said we can expect to see J. Vincent, A. Broussard, and J. Addai all get a fair amount of carries Saturday. He also hinted that S. Carey will probably not get any runs from scrimmage. He did not say who will start. The hosts, John Granado and Lance Zirlein, are both LSU fans to some extent. They do seem to like the Tigers. They really like Nick Saban. I believe Granado's wife grew up in New Iberia, and Zirlein's father used to coach at LSU. Do you do the PM Pick 5, 99? I've been terrible this year - struggling to get even 3 of the 5 each week. The National Champions 14 Also Ran Dawgs 13 :geaux:
I knew Lance's dad was a football coach but didn't realize he had coached at LSU. I've heard John Granado talk about going to LSU football games and could tell he had some kind of family ties to Louisiana. I usually work until 6 PM each day so I'm not familiar with the PM Pick 5. I've heard that thing they do with the 7 questions on various topics and the caller keeps going until he misses. The winner is the caller who gets #7 correct. Kind of like 9-ball in pool. I've never called in for one of the shows but listen just about all the time on my 30 minute commutes each day.
Saban has said that Corey Webster got a hip pointer in one of the earlier games when he was back returning a punt. So hopefully he's getting up to full speed now.
Lot of H-town Tigers on the board I guess you are the guys I see headed east on I-10 in my TigerMobile II on home game weekends. Got my newspaper rolled up ready to SWAT those Dawgs.
