This is the article that Gilbeau was referencing. The quote at the very end does sound a little troubling. http://www.cleveland.com/collegesports/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/107260764283500.xml
"It's probably not a good time to say this," he said, "but when you coach pro ball, it's all about ball. I like that." I wouldn't worry about that. He's just talking in general terms. But, you do hear some coaches saying they get tired of all the extra stuff you have to do in college like recruiting, camps, alumni functions, grades, discipline problems and so on. You also hear that if you want to reach the pinnacle of football coaching it is the NFL. Balance that statement with his, "We love Baton Rouge and I love coaching college" statements and you turn out even.
Not really. When you coach pro ball, it is not all about ball. What about free agency? Salary cap? Meddling owners? The fact that NFL coaches don't seem to stick around for very long anymore unless they win in the playoffs every year?
Keyshawn Johnson, Joe Horn, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss....When they play pro ball it's all about THEM. Saban does NOT like that!
If you coached a team that was a pitiful 3-8 the season prior to your arrival, post winning seasons in all four years, winning the SEC title twice, and in your fourth year your team is 12-1 and has a shot at the NC, and you like where you are at, and you know LSU will increase your compensation to keep you as the coach, would you not use this as a bargaining tool? I believe that Nick will return for another season especially if we lose in the Sugar bowl. I think he is the type that will feel he has unfinished business without a NC. I also think that he can cause the salary offer from an NFL team to grow by staying longer and achieving more success. I believe Nick will be here for at least two more years. Trying to think like Nick – I would want to take a shot at achieving back-to-back national championships especially with the talent that is on board and possibly coming with this year’s class. No – Nick will be back one more season for sure. I can’t help but think that he is playing his cards to his advantage for more $ and when his kids are out of school he’ll go pro.
Tonight on ESPN Radio Len Pascarelli (sp) said his guess is that Nick Saban will be LSU's coach next year. His reasoning was that some of the teams with vacancies (Giants, Bears) don't like to pay their coaches very much and that in general it would cost a team an awful lot to get Nick Saban out of Baton Rouge.
I wonder how high LSU will go when the Tigers win the NC? I mean, I know about the $1 guarantee, but would they go even higher for more incentive for him to stay???
