If not for the electoral college, Osama and his band of merry men would still be strategizing and executing terrorist attacks on our shores. Thank God for George W. Bush and his administration.
"We also know that there are unknowns; that is to say there are some things we don't know. But there is also unknown unknowns--the ones we don't know we don't know". Donald Rumsfeld HUH? Is this anything like the difference between ignorance and stupidity? Stupidity is knowing we don't know and not doing anything about it. Ignorance is not knowing we don't know and not being able to do anything about it. J&J just loves W being in office, cause the longer he stays in, the more Vaseline they're gonna sell to the American people! I've never seen so many people get screwed so bad and want more of it.
Oh yeah, anyone with a D after his name doesn't care about national security. Gore wouldn't have invaded Afghanistan and disrupted the al-Qaida network. Four more years of coddling the Saudis while they build madrassas is exactly what will keep America safe.
I don't get the logic behind the idea that if a Democrat was in the White House a strong move would not have been made against Osama and his murdering followers. I do believe that some of the things Gore says about the environment is a bit nutty, but nothing he has said or done logically means that therefore he would not have been just as if not more aggressive against terrorism after 9/11 as George W. Bush. Now whether Gore would have gone into Iraq is a different story, but equally as important is whether going into Iraq had absolutely anything to do with terrorism, but that's been discussed ad nauseum. Specific to the Osama issue, however, I think its illogical to assume that Gore or any other Democrat would have been any less vigilant post 9-11.
The logic is that Gore would have fiddle f*ked around trying to get UN and (former) allied approval before taking any action. By then they would have been so dug into the mountains of afghanistan that we'd never root them out. And Saddam would still be killing people by the hundreds of thousands while all the while continuing to build his WMD and nuclear arsenal with an eye toward doing massive damage to the infidels. That's you and me by the way.
Rumsfeld is one of those wartime leaders that is vital to the effective conduct of a war. He is single-minded, self-confident, suffers no fools, and is ruthless in the application of military power. A war, once started must be won, won quickly, and won effectively. Such a man is a valuable asset at such a time. However, in peacetime you really have to keep a leash on such men. They can get us into wars we don't need. The Native Americans had a pretty good system. They had a peace chief and a war chief. The peace chief was an older guy with much wisdom and prudence who would lead the tribe in peace, avoid conflicts, and insure prosperity. But having decided to go to war, he would select a war chief. A younger individual, full of piss and vinegar, single-minded on the pursuit of war and the defeat of the enemy. It's hard to find an individual who has both qualities. Not impossible . . . but very rare.
George W. Bush, on taking office, immediately halted all Predator unmanned spy plane flights over Afghanistan which were looking for Bin Laden. NO Predator spy plane flights were made over Afghanistan under Bush until the 911 attacks. These flights were routine under Clinton. In the time between Bush taking office and 911, Predators had been armed with Maverick missiles. Yet he did not order even ONE patrol of this aircraft into Afghanistan before 911. Bush immediately withdrew the standing patrol of an nuclear attack submarine from the Pakistani coast. Clinton had put it there 24/7 so it could attack again with cruise missiles if good info was found on where Bin Laden was going to be. Dick Cheney was put in charge of the "Bin Laden-Al Qaida Watch." Before 911, Cheney did not conduct even ONE meeting with staffers on Bin Laden. He did conduct several meetings with the oil companies and Kenneth Lay of Enron so they could re-write our environmental laws. Although warned repeatedly by George Tenet and others that Al Qaida was a dire IMMINENT threat, Bush did absolutely NOTHING in response. George W. Bush has conquered Afghanistan and STILL cannot find Bin Laden.
