former SEC commisioner has this to say about the LSU/USC issue:

"Everybody says it's horrible that USC, the No. 1 team in the polls going into the bowls, didn't play for the BCS championship," Kramer told The Knoxville News Sentinel for Wednesday's edition.

"I've looked at it over the years and I can tell you that the polls are highly influenced when you lose a game. If LSU had lost in September and USC had lost late, I have a strong suspicion the poll would have been reversed and LSU would have been No. 1 and USC No. 2. So that system isn't perfect, either," he said.

The BCS has prompted fans to pay attention to teams outside their region, Kramer said.

"A lot of people forget that college football is about 100 teams, not just two or three. This was one of the great years with more interest and more excitement," he said.
