Jim Rome said if he was asked if he could have any coach besides Stoops to coach his team he'd pick Nick Saban. Basically said the guy flies under the radar but he is the best coach in the country. He added "to you clones in New Orleans (like that's the only city in La.) it's not a question of whether you can keep Saban but rather how long before he leaves. Saban will take a better job if offered and one will be offered." He didn't mention NFL or college but the tone was that LSU is a stepping stone. He mentioned Saban's nomadic history and the fact that 4 years at LSU is his longest at any position.

Well we know he is not going to the NFL, because Saban has no desire to coach a bunch of ego maniacs. Also we know he is not going back north again. He has stated he likes the warm weather and doesn't miss the snow. I personally would just wish people would get off the subject, because I don't think he is going anywhere.

Rome can really chap your a$$ with his spew sometimes. Realize that he probably believes about 50% of the stuff he spits out of his pie hole. The rest is just to get a rise out of people and draw listeners/ viewers to his show so that he can achieve ratings and keep a job. Rome has a tendency to fly off the handle without the whole story. I have heard the statements made by Saban in regards to calling Baton Rouge his home. I have heard him say that he likes teaching and coaching at the collegiate level. I have heard many positive statements that would lead me to believe he will stay here a long time. I hope that he does stick around. I will always be grateful for what he has brought to this team, the school and the state. It has been a great ride, and one that I hope is without end. So, I wouldn't be too concerned with what some love myself, overrated, loud mouthed, wanna be celebrity who didn't even play any sports (that I know of anyway) has to say. Enjoy the moment!

    Thanks Saban!!

    Kick Rebel Butt this weekend!!

In the event of the worst case scenario that Saban was to leave for the NFL, look at what LSU has to offer:

    1) We pay our coaches very well.

    2) We are getting our facilities up there with the best in the nation. We also have the student athlete academic center which is huge in recruiting.

    3) We play in the SEC, so you will be guaranteed a shot at National Title runs if you can get the team to that point.

    4) We are the ONLY BCS conference team in the state, so you own the state as far as recruiting goes.

Bottom line is even in the event that the unthinkable happens and we lose Saban, we should be an attractive place for a new coach.

    Rome is a joke.

Jim Rome is simply a professional entertainer. His actual knowledge of sports in general and sports occuring outside the west coast area of the country in particular is slight at best. He uses his confrontational style to swat down callers who disagree with his maniacal tirades as part of his regular act. I ran into him with his wife at a local video store here in L.A. and was immediately taken by the fact that the guy is a midget. There is no way he has ever played any of the regular team sports competatively. If he tried to compete at football, he would be carried from the field on a stretcher. How such a little squirt of a guy developed such a huge ego and confrontational style is beyond me. If Chris Evert had ever landed a punch on the little bleep, he would have had to pick Romey up, wipe his nose, and drive him to where he could receive proper medical attention. Hell, his wife is a good four inches taller than he is... Sheesh, I wish he would conduct his rants on subjects that he is familiar with and continue to ignore LSU football, which he obviously knows next to nothing about.:dis:

But also pay attention to Saban's quote from a few weeks ago when he said about regretting having not been able to "finish what he started".

I think he'll want to finish this and see it through. :geaux:

I've learned to like Rome. He's carved out his own niche in Sports Radio by being a bit of a jerk toward callers who don't toe the party line, i.e., bring the smack in jungle style. He doesn't want his show to be the type of call-in where "Goober from Itta Bena" calls in and says " wuhll Romey, whaddya thank of Ole Missy's chances aginst the Tigers this week? He must have grown up idolizing ghetto home boys because he appears to try to be a gangsta hoops baller in a white bread body. One thing I enjoy about his show is that he does, on occasion, conduct some excellent interviews and that's where his chief talent lies.
