Just wondering why I'm not seeing or hearing his name mentioned. For those unfamiliar w/ the name, Romeo Crennel is Bill Belichick's defensive coordinator up in New England. He's one of the hottest assistant coaches out there, and all the talking heads say that he's ready to move into an HC position somewhere. He would be a good fit for us, as he's already privy to the whole Belichick/Saban defensive philosophy, and it would give us some sense of continuity on that side of the ball, anyway. I'm still not 100% convinced that Coach Saban is going anywhere, but if he does, I'd really like to see Skip at least make some overtures toward this guy.

Most likely to get a shot at an NFL coaching job sometime soon so I doubt he would want to delay that possibility by going to the NCAA. He would be one to consider if he were interested but I don't see him looking to leave the NFL.

He's highly thought of in NFL circles. NFL teams can't talk to him until after the NFL season is over. In the case of the Patriots the last few years that has been deep into the playoffs or the Super Bowl. Some NFL insiders say the Patriots success has cost him a shot at interviewing for a couple of NFL jobs. I would'nt put him at the top of my list, but would certainly consider him if he was interested.

I am indifferent whether Saban leaves or not (I don't think he's going, honestly), but Butch Davis would be the perfect hire, because you know he doesn't want any part of the NFL anytime soon...and that seems to be our main worry with CNS at this point...

I give him a ton of credit for making such a complicated defense work. He is also responsible for developing Randall Gay become a standout CB as a rookie. I share the above concerns with another one: is he going to implement 3-4 at LSU? We obviously don't have the personnel to make that happen immediately and we would have to endure some rebuilding next year when were primed to win the SEC.
I also feel as though he would use LSU as a stepping stone so I say forget it.

I thought I read that Davis doesn't want to coach for a year due to some health issues. Did anyone else see that?

And Saban isn't interested in any NFL coaching jobs either. What coaches say to the press and what they really want can be very very different.:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
