To say the road it tough to win in the SEC is an understatement. We have been averaging attempting over 20 free throws a game up until the Alabama game. We went to the line only 6 times in Tuscaloosa. Very tough to win when you are playing 8 vs. 5.
Come on Jeff...calling the refs to blame in this game isn't quite accurate. Both teams were 2-2 in the first half, but Steele was fouled 8 times in the second with the majority of those close to the end of the game. He was also 8-8. However, there is no doubt that "home court advantage" plays a huge role in B-ball!
:dis: You have GOT to be friggin' kidding me?! 8 vs. 5 my ass! We only had seven more attempts than you did, and we were whistled for 2 MORE fouls than LSU. They let them play and our big men Davidson and Hendrix together only accounted for a total of 3 FT attempts. Most of our attempts came off of Steele drives to the basket. There was also just 1 foul called on the 300 pound man in the middle. He was elbowed but should have been given an award for that flop-job. He was rolling around on the ground crying and when the whistle blew, he popped up with a smile. This is total BS. You're the only one that has been screaming about the refs. Typical DA fan job there! :dis:
Didn't see the game so I can't comment on the officiating. But we are an inside team. A loosely called game would affect our team much more than yours.
You must know absolutely nothing about Bama's basketball team. We are only 7 deep. Davidson played 40 minutes. I'm not sure if you've noticed but both games were called loose. You won the first, we won the second... If you didn't see the game, then dont comment at all...:dis:
So do you have any argument that conflicts with my statement? In fact a loosely called game helps teams without depth because there is no foul trouble. This isn't something im making up. I dont need to see any game to tell you that a loosely called game hurts a team that gets almost all of its scoring in the paint.
One more point, I'm not trying to say any officiating cost us the game, or that is was called badly because there weren't many fouls called. Every game is called different, and balanced teams can adjust. Our team is not balanced. We couldn't adjust, we lost.
A loosely called game also helps your big men stay into the game. A team with limited depth at every postition such as Bama's squad, kind-of relies on an inside team to get into foul trouble. Our legs are winded, but we'd rather play your second teamers than Baby and Thomas. The game was consistant, as it was at your place. I was the first to admit that it was consistant at the PMAC. But, our guys were in early foul trouble there. For someone to say it was 8-5 is just stupid. We were whistled for 2 more fouls and at least 2 of your fouls were at the end of the game, after it was already decided.
It was definitly the refs fault. The road atmosphere had nothing to do with our loss. The refs also played great D on D. Mitchell.:dis:
As far as a loosely called game... In this situation, I'd say it favors LSU simply because of the size and strength of Davis vs Davidson. When you look at the other big men you have Hendrix vs Mitchell. I'd call that a pretty even swap. The biggest difference between the two games was one) Mitchell (f) was shut down in this last contest which does give a little credence to your assertation and two) limiting the production Mitchell (g) had during the game. We are two pretty evenly matched teams with the exception of your bench being a tad deeper than ours. Not much, but a tad. One other point...one game 21 fouls called..the other, 19. Not a lot of difference there.
