People are commenting on how quick Richard Murphy looks, but until there is actual tackling involved I am reserving judgement. Until he goes through a scrimmage we can rely on his high school tape and credentials. Has his size or speed increased dramatically from high school? I know he had over 2000 yards in his junior year, but he was still rated a 3 star by rivals. Believe me, I hope and pray he is a phenomenon, but Keiland and Scott were rated higher. I think Murphy will need open space to perform well, as he doesn't seem to be a power runner. Perhaps he will be our 3rd down back if he can learn to pick up blitzes. Some players play faster than others. Believe me Keiland can fly if he opens it up. He ran a sub 4.4, 40 yard dash at Hargrove Prep. His running style is tucked with his shoulder pads low though, so he will lose a little speed, but gain power and balance. Scott is slower with a 4.55 as his 40 time. From what I gather Murphy looks to have more cutting ability than anyone except maybe Holiday. Am I right? I can't wait for the first scrimmage to see how he does, but I can't see him taking the starting job from Keiland. Comments?
It's my understanding he would have been rated much higher out of high school if he hadn't got injured.
Where did you see that he was rated 3 stars? Last time I checked, he was a 4 star (see link). He would have been 5 stars if it weren't for his injury. http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?sport=1&pr_key=34856
And he was rated in the top 10 RB's in the US of A by Rivals. Scout is the one that ranked him lower due to his injury as the 37th best back and a 3 star player.
Ok, thanks a lot for the thread. I think Tiger fans are making a big deal out of it. We just love to think we have great players yet to see the field and so. But honestly, we havent seen ANYTHING from him, he may be talented but we dont know. Let's wait and see how he plays, till then, it's Keiland Williams. I havent seen anything but amazing from him, his combination of size, power, speed and vision is just AMAZING. Why isnt everyone dicussing that?????
b/c it's boring to talk about the people we KNOW are good. We like to talk about surprises. This is America. Start your own Keiland thread, dude.
And let's not forget that Keiland was a heavily recruited 5 star that we won his recruiting battle over USC...which makes it even sweeter. BTW, Keiland almost became the leading rusher on the team when he only played some games. Imagine him as the starter, he'll run over a 1000 if he doesnt get injured. That I guarantee.
Well the players who saw him everyday in practice last year seem to think he is very talented. Vincent even mentioned that he was the best RB on the team. I've heard that he did a great job as the scout team RB. I think this kid is going to be the real deal. We can expect another year without a real "featured" back. Keiland will start I guess, but I expect to see a lot of Murphy and Hester. If nothing else Murphy will be a great change of pace back...sort of the "thunder and lightning" thing that is becoming so popular around the NFL.
