This isn't 'guilt by association,' it's guilt by endorsement. Wright's preachings are hateful, misguided, and encourage black people to blame whitey for every shortcoming or dissatisfaction that they might encounter. In fact, while he thinks he is helping them, he is indeed hurting them tremendously. From what I've heard, his lessons don't consist of telling his congregation to help themselves. Rather, he insists on damning everyone that has made things so difficult on them (his actual words were 'God damn America.') I have to be honest, I like Obama. But this whole fiasco is making me very seriously re-consider my stance on him. I don't know if I could vote for someone who willingly subjected themselves to such rants for so long. The global lesson here is that politicians need to distance themselves from religion as much as possible. I didn't like Mit Romney because he actually believes that asinine story of Mormon. To me, believing something like that greatly diminishes a person's ability to make logical decisions. Just like I have to question his motives if Obama believes the tripe that Wright spews out. Wouldn't it be ironic if the hateful acrimony of a supposed black leader prevented America from electing it's first black president?
That would be very ironic and I have thought of that myself. But i dont think it will happen. As everything else, this remains to be seen.
If Obama manages to hold on to the democratic nomination, which is a tall order in itself. Get ready for the Reverend Wrights' greatest hits in October.
I think he will hold on to the nomination. If he does, this will definitely come up again, but to a much smaller degree, because McCain has this same problem on a smaller scale. The truth is race is a big issue in this country to this day and most people arent honest about it. They mask it in many different packages. I would probably walk out of church, if I heard my pastor using this type of rhetoric.
obama will get a big bump after that speech. as inspiring as anything jfk said. that being said, i dont have a problem with what the preacher said. the outrageous things he said all had kernels of truth in them that related to the plight of poor people. he's a preacher----he embellishes. he's a black preacher----he really embellishes. the "god damn america" one that gets most of the attention ticks me off. it ticks me off that people have a problem with him saying it. this country has done a lot of stuff that god should damn. i would think that the anti-abortion majority on this forum would appreciate that.
Not even close. What kernel of truth is there in calling Condoleeza Rice "Condamnesia"? I think it has more to do with her being black and associating with Republicans just as Colin Powell was criticized. Are they only acceptable if they are Democrats? And what possible kernel of truth is there in associating the events of 9/11 with Hiroshima and Nagasaki? If Hillary worshipped at the church of Gloria Steinem and Gloria had uttered the phrase "God damn men", referred to John McCain as "John needs a cain", and suggested that America got what it deserved on 9/11, she'd be absolutely buried, dead, scewered, fried, toast. As it is, she had to dissasociate with Ferraro who made a provocative statement about race even though everyone, including Obama's camp, knows she is not a racist.
I'm sure you probably think I'm a racist, mastermind, but I have no problem voting for a black president. In fact, before I learned more about Obama & his stances, I strongly considered voting for him. Politicians are liars. They present the side of themselves that gets the most votes - not necessarily the true side. Of course Obama rejected the comments. He had no choice if he wanted to stand a chance in this election.
