The right to vote is based on citizenship; not intelligence or education. I think those 55 old farts who wrote the constitution knew what they were doing. I certainly trust them more than I trust someone who has such a bad opinion of the American people as you seem to have. I think the vast majority of Americans are much more intelligent than you seem to give them credit for. But based on your idiotic post, I may have to review that perception. By the way, if you want to be precise, we have a democatic republic. There are genuine elements of democratic principles alive and well in this nation of ours.
And that is just the problem with his ideas. It is nothing more than a thinly-veiled attempt to disenfranchise blacks - again. These kind of restrictive laws have always been aimed at specific groups. This is one time I would agree with the ACLU, not to mention the constitution.
There is a sharp distinction between democracies and republics. What differentiates a "Republic" from a "Democratic Republic"?
There are a lot of people in Venezuela that would disagree with you. Or, are we so different that that could not happen to US?
I did not assume that one political party would benefit more than the other, and i found it very prejudice on your part to suggest that this is targeting blacks. I would assume that blacks and whites would lose similar percentage of voters.
Let me get this straight: If I don't pass a civics test, I can't participate in elections that have an impact on me? Also, administrating a test and grading it sounds like yet another expensive waste of public money.
Who said anything about blacks, you made that connection on your own which is very short sited and racist. Along with Frog, I don't think his suggestion would limit any one racial or ethnic group. I know plenty of ignorant people of all race and ethnicity that would lost that right if this were to be done. While I don't agree with his premis, I still believe only citizens should have a vote and you should have to prove your citizenship to vote as well. Starship troopers... never read the book, but I know the movie was horrible besides Amy Smart and Denise Richards, and they were just eye candy.
Bingo, another useless thread to promote right wing ideas of disenfranchisment of voting blocs. Great fantasy, you could write another book about it. :thumb:
The thought of decreasing the amount of ignorant, uninformed voters must drive your crazy. There really is no other way around it. The right to vote must be given to all people no matter how stupid they are. It's just hard to be optimistic know that there are millions of morons like Peggy Joseph that actually think they are intelligent enough to vote.
