I think a large segment of American Voters are ignorant, superficial voters, and should not be entitled to vote. Hell, i bet the vast majority believe that the USA was founded as a democracy, when in fact it was a republic. The forefathers feared a democracy, and for good reason. 1) People should be required to pass a basic test to vote, which would cover civics, American History, World Affairs, etc... 2) Anyone receiving handouts (welfare, etc...) from the government should lose their voting privileges. Only educated, independent American Citizens should vote. :usaflagwa:usaflagwa:usaflagwa
This is why the only federal official that the people are supposed to be voting for are representatives... the senate is supposed to represent the states and the president is elected by an elite group of voters in the electoral college... slowly, over the years, as state's rights receded, the conmen populists shifted all power in the u.s. to washington...
You obviously really hate The Constitution of the United States of America. As such, you should not be allowed to vote.
Can you imagine if people on public assistance, those who quit school without reason, and those who aren't supposed to vote (illegal aliens, felons, the dead) weren't allowed to vote? The Republicans and Independents would battle it out for control. The Democrats would slip to the third party. COOL! Good luck getting this past the ACLU!
The right to one vote for every man is one of America's greatest pillars. Unfortunately it is also inevitable that it will also ruin her. Does anyone actually think that most of the voting population has the intelligence to grasp the issues the government is supposed to handle? Of course not. Much of these people can't even handle their own lives. Most aren't qualified to run or manage a business yet they're given a voice in how the nation's national security, infrastructure, economics are run? How long have these left aligned groups and media like MTV been telling people, "just go vote...it doesn't matter who you vote for...just vote." Unfortunately most ignorant people aren't smart enough to know they're dumb. The right to NOT vote exists as well. We should teach people to exercise their right to not vote and leave it to people who are smart enough to grasp the issues at hand.
Red..the constitution has been around for a long time. Some people in our society have only had the right to vote for a short time. The constitution argument doesn't hold water. I agree that not all people should, or deserve to, be able to vote. Has anyone ever read the book "Starship Troopers"? I kinda like Robert Heinlein's idea of citizenship...it must be earned. http://www.nitrosyncretic.com/rah/ftp/fedrlsvc.pdf
While Salty is right about the Constitution and the right to vote, I can't agree with your solution. Because we really don't know any better, we all have this image of Colonial America being populated exclusively by patriotic men who fully understood the responsibility of the ballot box. I'd be willing to bet that a substantial percentage of the population couldn't even read, and didn't care a whit about who or what was on the ballot, just so long as they got their crops harvested before winter. In short, this is hardly the first generation of stupid, uninformed voters. What you're suggesting violates a basic American principle that we see in action every time a Jessie Jackson, or a tree-hugger, or an anti-2nd Amendment twit opens his/her mouth; that there's no law against stupidity. And I know you guys are aiming your comments mostly at the left. While I couldn't agree more, we on the right are just going to have to do a better job of fighting this fight within the rules. That means getting our message out to more people and not allowing Republicans to compromise conservative values.:usaflagwa
While I think the original post was pretty much just flame bait, it's an interesting question. Starship Troopers is a great book, Salty. Much, much better than the movie (although Denise Richards....hmmm...) Imagine the chaos of a society where those on the dole had no vote in the government. Unworkable. Revolution in no time. Our system is messy. And inefficient. And it allows folks who are completely ignorant to stand along side brilliant people with completely selfish agendas in the polling place lines. It works. There's another election in two years. Then another. And another. Etc. Eventually, we'll get back to one you like.
What you have to understand is some get their education from public school systems and universities. They teach a different kind of world than many of us grow up in, they preach leftists agendas and brainwash the youth of today. You also have the media of today that proclaim to be moderate or objective but in fact are slanting everything to their point of view. There are a lot of people out there that don't realize or understand that they have been brainwashed. Before anyone questions what I've said here I'll mention Ward Churchill. I would bet my paycheck against yours almost every public education establishment have their Ward Churchills and others who preach leftist propaganda. Edit: Bill Ayers also!
