    Restaurant smoking ban in Louisiana

I'm all about personal freedoms. But since second-hand smoke has proven negative health effects on others, I'm all for the ban. I wish they'd expand it into bars as well.

As I head a bartender in Colorado say, 'Smoking is a privelege, not a right. But breathing clean air is a right.'

Your title says Baton Rouge. I assume you know it's state wide.

Guess it doesn't make a hill of beans to me. But if it's such a bad thing why does the government susidize tabacco farmers. Whole nother subject for sure.

It may actually help rest. in the fact that smokers will get up and leave clearing a table rather creating more volume. Who knows.

I think the "fact" that second hand smoke is harmful is a bunch of crap, but I'm OK with the smoking ban.

I think it's a bad move. It should be up to the owner of the restaurant. If one guy allows it, and his competitor down the street doesn't then customers also will have a choice. Why does the government feel like they have to force this on people?

Don't tell that to my friends dad, who developed lung cancer from working in casinos for many years, despite never actually taking up the habit himself.

I don't think any establishment would ever ban it if they didn't have to. Otherwise, they probably would have by now. If it would compromise their business in relation to other joints, I don't see why they would do it.
Well, why do smokers feel like they have to force their disgusting habits on the rest of us? I just think this sense of entitlement that smokers have is ridiculous.

How do you know it wasn't the film on the playing cards or plastic from the chips, or the pollution outside or any one of a million other things? How do you explain people who actually smoked and never got lung cancer or people who never smoked but got lung cancer? Sounds like your friends Dad got a lawyer to sign him up. No disrespect indended, of course.

And how many studies linking these other things (aside from the pollution...but he was living in S. Dakota anyway) to cancer have you seen? This isn't an isolated incident. I was reading about this sort of thing a while back. It even mentioned that a lot of entertainers (singers, dancers, etc.) that worked primarily in casinos are developing a lot of illnesses associated with cigarette smoke.

Here is a NY Times article about it.
Here's one mentioning possible damage to DNA and the health of casino performers.

Smoking cigarettes doesn't guarntee that you'll get cancer, but is known to greatly increase the chances. Phillip Morris even admits this.
Sounds like you're being a presumptuous jerk. No disrespect intended, of course. He's not filing a lawsuit against anyone.
