Yep, I got dinged by: http://www.tigerforums.com/members/lsugradkke.html With the comment of another LSU Tiger website. I won't post the website due to the fact that I'm not going to give him the satisfaction of having it posted for everyone to see but I just thought I'd let Brett know someone is promoting their website through the rep system.
That's a bummer. It also begs a few questions: 1) is making a contribution for membership no longer an option? 2) if so, is the ability to spread reputation now available to everyone? If so, has any thought been given to locking down the ability to spread reputation for new members for a short period of time (determined by post count or some such thing?
Thanks lsu_mackey. I have been notified by other members that this was going on. Forum member poaching is one of things that is really looked down upon in the forum owner community. While we are making changes that encourage more people to post and express their opinion we are also experimenting with the user privileges that new users have. Most spamming, linking, unauthorized advertising comes from new users so we will be limiting new users' ability to engage in these activities until they prove that they will be regular forum members and not just drive-by spammers. We welcome new members and want everyone to be able to express their opinions but advanced forum features will now be limited to members that have proven that they are legitimate forum members and not spammers. Right now new users are placed into the Rookie group. After a short time period and number of posts they are automatically placed into the forum Veteran Group where full features are unlocked.
Sorry hebertjp, I forgot to answer your questions. 1) No, we are going to rely on advertising to keep us afloat. But if you send me a PM, I'll send you an address where you can still send a contribution if you'd like. 2) I think everyone but Rookies can give rep. I can't remember the settings. Rookies graduate to Forum Veterans pretty quick.
