Many of us were disappointed in Feb. when Jerald Watson, TB, Central Catholic-Morgan City, decommitted and signed with Auburn. Well, I have it on very good authority that Watson will be drafted in the first or second round by the Florida Marlins, and intends to sign. So Auburn won't get him either.
We are sort of loaded at that position. If a kid didnt' want to compete for his job and wanted to go eat spinach dip with the Barners, more power to him.
Not so fast, my friend I believe you're correct about JW getting drafted, though I do not believe it will be in the first round. Regardless, he's likely to sign but it doesn't mean he won't play for AU. JW is on record, as quoted in the Mobile Register, that he would like to convince his future employer to allow him to play both sports, at least for one season. That being said, I'd agree with you that it is unlikely to occur. Hard to imagine a scenario where a pro team would permit a "risk" to their investment, but it has happened on numerous occasions.
We really don't care what the kid does. We wish him the best. I have never heard of a kid playing professional baseball at the same time he's playing NCAA Div I football. I'll be very surprised if this kid can pull it off.
Actually, Mewelde Moore from my alma mater, Belaire High of Baton Rouge did it. He played in the San Diego Padres system as a 4th round pick out of high school for a couple of years while he was becoming Tulane's all-time career total yardage leader. Also, if I remember right, John Elway played in the Yankees system while he was still the QB at Stanford. Of course, we're talking about exceptional athletes here. Is Jerald Watson really all that? Perhaps we'll see.
Go Bengals!!!! Actually we sucked ass in football the entire time I went to school there but it's nice to finally see a gifted athlete and say he went to the same HS as I did.
