The head of the Lafayette NAACP chapter wants a comedian's act banned from performing, without even having seen the act. http://www.acadiananow.com/news/html/BBFB2CDA-609C-4D9B-948F-1217378F3D98.shtml
I find that new Wayan brothers moving, White Chicks, racially offensive. Someone hand me some lighter fluid so I can set myself on fire in protest :dis: :bncry: :bncry: :bncry: :bncry:
Let's go ahead and start shutting down the arts, too. Damn those racist, ultra-conservative artists....uhhh, that's like describing jumbo shrimp. Must not be too much to make news of in Lafayette right now to have to chase after the performing artists.
Personally, i don't care. As long as the actual show is not offensive he can paint himself to be whatever he wants but I wonder why he doesn't just do his comedy as a white man, but who cares.
If the makeup helps him get into whatever character he is portraying, there shouldn't even be a discussion. To me, its no different than the times of Shakespeare when the actors would dress as women, animals, the sun, etc. Performance art is just that, a performance. I watched Dave Chappelle's "Killing Them Softly" last night and laughed continuously at the outrageous crap flying out of his mouth. Should I have been offended, who cares. It was too damn funny for me to think about that.
My point was that Ja'Nelle (and what's with an apostrophe that doesn't mean anything?) should at least see the act before wanting to ban it.
First, white chicks is a stupid movie. Second, maybe it’s just me but I thought blackface performers went the way of politically incorrectness a long time ago. The following quote was in the article: Unlike the old-time minstrel shows, which he said could be considered offensive, “he just becomes a black man, and it’s good, clean, rural, Southern humor.” The old-time minstrel shows were very offensive, so why would someone want to use the same image portrayed in those shows. Even without seeing the act I don't get a good feeling about the whole thing. With that being said, I still would at least try to find a tape or see part of it before trying to get it stopped in the name of fairness. But it is hard for me to imagine a circumstance where I would find a blackface performer amusing.
