If they need this kind of crap to fire them up, then they've already lost.

BTW...if you're in the final months of a terminal illness, wouldn't you be at home in bed, rather than traveling hundreds of miles to fight the crowd at
a football game? There's something that doesn't ring true about that little accusation.

Was that another CBS 60 Minutes memo? Was it posted by Dan Rather?

I've seen fans throw objects when LSU scores so I can buy that one...

I can even buy the accusations about people being spit on or cursed at because it's happened to me at other stadiums.

but to believe the stories about vans being lit a blaze and fans carrying cups of urine I'd have to see it myself.

I rarely post on any Auburn boards and I NEVER post on a rival board . But I felt the need to respond to this. I agree that neither fans nor players need crap like this to get then fired up, I will be there yelling my lungs out because that is what you do to support your team. I don't need outside motivation from off the field hatred(unless your bama, of course)to get fired up. Tommy Williams was the director of tiger walk for many years and was a true Auburn man, heart and soul. He was diaganosed with a terminal brain tumor the Wed. before the Alabama game in 2001 and was leading Tiger Walk on that Saturday. The doctors told him there was nothing they could do, it would be weeks not months. Knowing that it would be his last Auburn football game, he made the trip to Baton Rouge and was not treated kindly. Of course, the LSU fans had no idea that it was his last game and I don't really care because I don't judge all fans of a school by a select few. Never have...even bammers. Sorry to get off on a rant for my first post, but just thought you should know that Auburn people aren't making up stories about terminally ill people to get fired up for a football game or to piss off LSU fans. Everyone making the trip to The Plains this weekend be safe. It should be a great game. I can't wait. May the best team win and WAR EAGLE...couldn't resist.

The "van" was the one that had the tacky "tiger tail" hanging on the back, though I am unsure of the size/scale/compsition of the tail. As I recall, someone lit the tail on fire during the game, and the van itself had little damage.

There is no excuse for this. I hate that when I visit other schools I have to take down my LSU flags, etc, knowing after the game they will be gone if I don't. But that was the spirit (and result) in which the "fire" was set: petty vandalism with a twist. Since then, the story has grwon to suggest gasoline poured on the van itself with trapped infants inside who were tossed back in each time they tried to escape. And the laughing throngs of drunk and rowdy LSU fans wouldn't even use their waiting cups of urine to put the fire out.

And as I recall, the "object" was a nerf football thrown by a child, and not maliciously.

I have NEVER seen the fabled urine cups.

We can be rotten, obnoxious, overbearing fans, but at least the aubies could fixate on those tales which are true!

I welcome correction of any of my recollections about the facts as described above.
