  4. It is amazing to me that Gonzales held his job as long as he did.
  5. Worse, Bush first wanted to appoint him to the supreme court when O'Connor retired, but republicans talked him out of it, as they later rebelled against Miers. As conservative as Roberts and Alito are, we could have ended up with Harriet Miers and Alberto Gonzales on the Supreme court, a couple of overt political hacks from the neo-con Texas mafia.
  6. Yeah. We need a couple more Ruth Biddy* Ginsburgs on the court.:dis:

  7. I would agree that Bush's Supreme Court nominations that got approved were far better than any of Clinton's appointees. The ones that got shot down were horrid attempts at cronyism.
  8. No, we need a couple of moderates like O'Connor.
  9. Actually, Gonzales was opposed because he wasnt conservative enough, not because he was some neo-conservative.

The Miers nomination had to be a diversion tactic to eventually get Alito on the court. Nobody would have confirmed her, not in a million years.

One thing you can say about President Bush is he has loyalty. In the face of unrelenting pressure he stayed by Gonzales' side the entire time when he should have cut him loose before now.
  10. His loyalty should be to the nation, not his friends or business allies. Regardless of the reasons, if a person is ineffective in his job, the President should remove them.
