How about instead of trying to ranking the coaching candidates, let's first rank the qualities we are looking for. 1) Run a clean program. Above all else, I want whatever we accomplish not to be tainted by cheating or classless behavior. 2) Great X's and O's guy. Someone who can handle the on the field production of our players. (Anti-Mack Brown for instance) 3) Great Developer of Talent. Can get the most out of their players. 4) Not looking to move to the NFL. Someone who will want to be like Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, or Bob Stoops and not use LSU as a springboard to the NFL. 5) Great Recruiter. I put this so low only because I think LSU is in great position to get players and the new coach won't have to be a dynamite recruiter to get quality players. They really only need to shut the door on Louisiana.
Here's what I'd like to see in a new coach... Here's mine: 1) Run a clean program. No cheating, period. 2) Great Recruiter. Nick Saban kept LSU is in great position to get players and the new coach will need to continue to stockpile the talent, not only here in Louisiana but be able to get into Florida and Texas as well. You've got to have the horses to run the race. It's much easier to win with great players. 3) Great Developer of Talent. Once you get that talent, you've got to get the most out of it. Much like Saban preached, focus on the process and the results will come. 4) Keep the program in the Top 10. I want someone who will keep LSU in the Top 10 year in and year out. 5) Doesn't have to be a great X's and O's guy but a good one. To me head coaches need to be more of a CEO type who can fill coordinator spots with talented folks then designate and rely upon those hires to do a good job. But I would like for the HC to get involved in one aspect or another and have final veto power. 6) Stay at LSU for a while. Finding someone like Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, or Bob Stoops is not likely in this day and age, and I also think it's complimentary to the folks who hired your coach when the NFL comes a calling. But I wouldn't mind to have a coach stay around for 10 years.
i agree with you guys but he has to have great assistants also. Look at Dinardo with Morris Watts and Carl Reece vs him with Lou Tepper and the other guy. I sure hope we can keep Jimbo and some of our assistants now!
1. Great "Gameday" Coach 2. Run a non-Alabama program 3. Good Recruiter especially with State talent 4. Good with Media (we need this now b/c of the BCS) 5. Athlete Graduation rate needs to stay high also
I'd like someone who can recruit well, but have difficulty relating to players once they join the program. Oh, and I want someone who is Jim Haslett-like in coming up with excuses for always falling short of the goal.:lsug: :bball: :thumb:
1.Offensie guy 2.Air attack As long as we have Muschamp we are going to have agreat defense. Since Muschamp worked with Saban for 5 years he knows how to run a defense so even though Saban is gone, we are still going to run almost the exact same defense.
I expect all the coordinators to get the axe... Jimbo a perspective HC would not "know" his place and may butt heads with a new coach. Muschamp may stay but I think a new HC would just clean it out and acquire new faces, so that no ties to Saban are left intact and the W's can be his and not Saban's leftovers.
