I have thought long and hard about this week's game against UGA after watching LSU destroy MSU. Here are some of my thoughts:

    1. Can LSU deliver another offensive performance like we did against MSU? Will the gameplan be one where we run the ball against UGA's suspect run defense with Ali Broussard and MR, or do we go to the air right away with JR and crew?

--I think we come out with Randall and Broussard and pound the ball until UGA proves they can stop it. Look for Broussard with a little bit of JV until 3rd downs, then either Broussard or Addai. I also expect to see some slip screens to Carey and a healthy Green. Also look for one or two misdirection plays to the XMan.

    2. What will the field conditions be come Saturday afternoon (heavy rains in Georgia from Hurrican Jeannie expected)? Will they tarp the field?

--I hope they are smart enough to tarp the field, but a wet field negates LSU's speed and gives UGA the advantage. Time will tell on this one.

    3. Will Georgia's offense wake up this week? They struggled against everyone they played, and LSU's defense is way better then Marshall's, Georgia Southern's, and South Carolina's.

--David Greene is in a funk, and the UGA running game is not all that, even withtheir freshman RB. If LSU brings the same gameplan we did last year, Greene will be sweating it out all day. IF UGA wins this game, it will be because David Greene plays the game of his life.

    PREDICTION: LSU 17
    UGA 13

    In addition..

    4) Turnovers. LSU needs to nip that problem in a hurry... No excuse for having so many against MSU... I think it was somewhat of a fluke and I'm sure Saban is handling that as we speak.

    5) Georgia's got a score to settle (well, 2 really...)... The're going to be seriously hyped about this game and hopefully their quest for vengance will blind them rather than drive them to win. That being said, I think if LSU remains cool and collected they will do fine. Cooler heads will prevail...

    6) IMO that we should look for Saban to run the option a few times... I know, I know... he isn't an option coach and hates it... But Georgia hates it more (i.e. Ga. Southern).... Wouldn't hurt to explore the possibility...

    7) Webster and Daniels will show up big in this one.... Just a feeling.

That's all I got for now...

    1. State is an awful football team and we will not perform that well against Georgia. We will have to use a balanced offense against Georgia. If we are one-dimensional, they can shut us down. But our backs can run against a 7-man front. The passing game has to click just enough to keep the defensive backs honest.

    2. A wet field negates the speed of both opponents. This is a Top-5 team, not unranked Oregon State. LSU is a faster team than Georgia, but it ain't the mismatch it was against OSU.

    3. LSU led the country in scoring defense at 11 points agame last year. This year it holds opponents to a little over 10 points a game. Georgia is going to have its hands full with this LSU defense. LSU is 36-0 under Saban when scoring more than 24 points a game. If the LSU offense can just score consistently, the defense can hold Georgia to under 24 points.

--I really don't know when UGA's run defense became so suspect (110 rushing yards over the last two games combined). My guess is that LSU will try to air it out early and often, trying to expose the matchups they get against Tim Jennings, who has a tendency to be involved in big plays (either making them or giving them up). The run defense has been damn near flawless this year, and bringing back Odell Thurman this week will only solidfy that further. Make no mistake about it, that won't be the Mississippi State defense you see on the field this Saturday.

    2. What will the field conditions be come Saturday afternoon (heavy rains in Georgia from Hurrican Jeannie expected)? Will they tarp the field?

--The field will be fine. The rain will be done here by mid-Tuesday and Sanford Stadium drains very well.

    3. Will Georgia's offense wake up this week? They struggled against everyone they played, and LSU's defense is way better then Marshall's, Georgia Southern's, and South Carolina's.

--It has got to wake up sooner or later is the way I think about it. I think it will have to wake up in order for us to have a chance. I am sure the playcalling will be opened up a good bit more than what it was for the first three games and that should help a litte, but our guys just have to execute better. Dropped passes and missed blocking assignments won't do anything but bring us a loss. Blocking will be key, as I am sure there will be a lot of pressure coming from the LSU defense. David will have chances, as our receivers should see a lot of 1-on-1 coverage with those great CBs you guys have. The key will be just giving David enough time to let the play develop and to get the ball off.

Should be a great game.....if either team gets to 20 I will be impressed.

I am basing my beliefs on this. UGA struggled against Georgia Southern, which is the only true running team UGA has faced this year (South Carolina is not a running team this year, and Marshall is all aboutthe pass). LSU will be the best rushing team UGA plays this year, and LSU has a history of running well on UGA (Carey in game 1, Vincent in the SECGC). Granted LSU does not have the same O Line we had last year, but we played well against Auburn and Miss St rushing (Broussard was a stud in both games, and should see most of the carries this weekend). I just think LSU is looking at that Georgia Southern tape and salivating.......

I agree that nobody will score 20 in this game

I like LSU's chances going into UGA. UGA has been underperforming to say the least. This is LSU's chance to show what we're all about. Even after the pummelling of Arkansas St, I had a bad feeling about the Auburn game. I thought we could win it, but figured it would be really close. However, I feel more confident about this Georgia game than ever. If things are clicking the way I think they are, I could see us beating Georgia by a fair amount. Our defense can hold their own and I think this will be this young offense's break out game. I look for Jamarcus to connect with Bowe several times, Broussard to keep a good ground game and Davis & Doucet to really start coming through.

I think the pressure is on LSU. The Tigers have won 2 games against a ranked opponent on the road in 2 years. They got everybody at home last year, which made it much easier to beat the tough teams of the SEC. This year is the year they go through the gauntlet, and I think Georgia wins by a TD, 17-10.
