How is it that when men's basketball and baseball are playing simultaneously, basketball gets the nod on the LSU network flagship over baseball? I mean given the success that baseball has enjoyed over the years at LSU (being one of the few baseball programs in the country that is actually a revenue-producer), especially when compared to the relative lack of succes in basketball, it just doesn't seem right that baseball should be relegated to sister-station status. The same applies to women's hoops. Our #1 girls played, arguably, the biggest game in the history of the program Thursday night...yet not a peep was heard on the flagship stations of the network. Is it just me, or does anybody else find this bass-ackward?
I believe different stations bid on the rigths to the other sports and become the "Official station of LSU baseball" for instance. So by contract, they have to always be on that station. 107.3 IS the flagship station for the Lady Tigers for instance.
Actually, the company who puts it on owns both stations. 98.1 for most, but in conflict, 107.3 (I think maybe the ladies, for continuity, wanted only one station.) Baseball will be back on 98.1 when there isn't a conflict.:geauxtige
Plus the men's basketball team is well into the season playing one of the bigger games remaining on the schedule. Baseball is just starting off and playing a gimme team. That being said, however, you can listen to the radio stream of the game live on LSUsports.net for free.
The Flagship station of the womens sports is 107.3. Both stations are owned by Guarantee Broadcasting. As a previous person said, the reason that the baseball team is bumped to 107.3 is b/c basketball is much deeper into the season. They are playing conference games. The baseball team is playing Nicholls. Thats a no doubter. Plus, it's nothing against the #1 girls that they are not on Eagle. They have their own flagship and it's 107.3. I may be wrong, but there might be more stations on the LSU basketball network then on the baseball network. I'm not sure though
Seems like whoever would generate the most revenue will be on the flagship station, it has got to be about making money, for the university and the broadcast partner.
Basketball generates more listeners, therefore more sponsors and more money. Basketball will always trumph baseball.
