Not more than I wanted to know, in fact exactly what I was looking for. The movie would be more entertai ing if it shows Lincoln thinking black people are stupid, like he clearly does.
Do I have an issue with its effect? No. I do, however, disagree with Lincoln that he had the authority to issue the proclamation. I believe it was an unconstitutional expansion of the power of the Presidency. The Constitution, as originally written, recognized the institution of slavery. To change that, an amendment to the Constitution was necessary and, eventually, accomplished by the 13th Amendment. But it took Congressional action and the ratification of the States. In by-passing the Congress and States, Lincoln, I believe, acted improperly.
The question is whether it is ok to violate the constitution to do something right. It's a tough question because its dangerous, but it sometimes has to be done. You ight ask why bother having the constitution if peeped can act above it, and is a fair and tricky question.
What you should have issue with is the number of slaves that it freed? Do you know the answer? I can help. It is Zero! None, nada, not one swinging Richard.
civil disobedience is a viable act. I have a problem with you citing the constitution, when it says that all men were created equal at the same time recognized slavery. So you believe in a document that was hypocritical at its birth, but have a problem with someone correcting that through other means contrary to the document that stated the hypocrisy and included the procedure to correct it?
im not talking about that, ceremonial yes, but still was needed to be said. and with that im going to get some chicken, brb.
I think the black man has won the argument. It's hard to say something is morally wrongly simply for its being unconstitutional. Too often people pretend that the constitution is sacred. It's prett damn amazing, but it has some errors.
Readers should note that mastermind loves chicken not because he is black but because its fucking delicious
