So how many Hall of Fame QB's can you come up with that had the delivery and the rocket arm that JR has? Marino?, Elway? Just looking for some comparison. We have all wondered about our recievers dropping balls all year, but they have had to catch some bullets!!! :helmet:

Receivers dropping the balls in the game and saying JR throws to hard is BS. If in practice these balls are being dropped in game situations either JR would have rode the pine or the receivers would have been changed in the depth chart. It's a game that is played to win and not a talent show. Balls that I saw tigers dropped were being caught everywhere else on Saturday's. Bottom line is none on the receiving core has shown the ability to catch balls consistently. And no improvement through the year. I would like to no why it appeared this was not addressed during the year by the coaching staff. I know LM and JF can't go out and catch the ball but at least one receiver should have shown improvement.

JR is out of MF reach and RP has not played a down of major college football. No comparison to make.

The strongest arm I remember in the pros belonged to Louisiana's own Terry Bradshaw. When he first went to the pros, he struggled for 3 seasons, was benched for 'Jefferson' Joe Gilliam, got the job back and the rest is history. Early in his career, Steelers (who had the #1 pick when they got Bradshaw, so they were BAD at that point, kinda like the Saints) didn't have great receivers and Bradshaw didn't have 'touch', there were a lot of drops. Terry learned it all, and later he could burn it in, hang it up, our float it out, and he loved to 'go long'. Terry was quite a good runner and he liked to hit, but after an injury kept him out a few weeks, the coaches 'ordered' him to slide.

I heard Terry set a national high school record for the Javalin throw back in the 60's, and when it was broken in the 90's, it was the oldest national high school record on the books.

4 super bowl rings, up there with Montana.

I agree with alot of what you said, but that statement is just plain wrong. I can name two receivers that have been extremely consistent... Bennie Brazell and Craig "Buster" Davis. Don't go criticizing every member of the WR corps when there are some players doing well. In Bennie's case, moreover, he has shown immense growth and improvement with his pass catching abilities. Davis, on the otherhand, just doesn't seem to ever get thrown the ball; but when he does the man catches it. SO just remember not to rip EVERY member of the corps when some guys have not just been consistent, but consistently excellent.

I pretty much agree with everything you said except the bold print...

Davis is 2nd on the team in receptions with 30 catches (only 8 behind DBowe) despite missing parts, or all of 3 games early in the season due to injury. So, if you don't think Davis seems to ever get thrown the ball, perhaps you haven't realized exactly how much he does get thrown the ball.....

On the year, Davis is 2nd in receptions and 2nd in receiving yards on the team. The one offensive stat that he's lower than #2 on the team is TD's. He just never had the chance to take more than one of his 30 catches to the endzone....

Oh, and just for comparison, Davis' would be 2nd in receptions if he played for Miami (the Canes leading receiver has 35 receptions on the year). So I don't think you realized just how much Davis DOES get the ball.

Everytime I hear about Russell's rocket arm I wanna throw up. I can name many QB's who had rocket arms that never amounted to anything. I'd rather have an average armed QB with a good brain than anything else.

Billie Joe Tolliver had a rocket arm but if you're as dumb as a stump what does it matter?

You're right, I really didnt do my research on that subject, I guess the reason I don't remember him getting thrown to is the fact that he doesn't make many mistakes (and all of us tend to remember the mistakes moreso than the completions). Thanks for pointing that out though, it really just reinforces what I was saying earlier... not all of our receivers are bad.

JR's arm strength is pretty inconsequential. As LSUCraig said, arm strength means nothing without intelligence. JR's physical attributes make him a nice QB prospect. A QB only gets to display those attributes once or twice a game - most of the time, it comes down to checking off at the line, recognizing what the defense is doing, finding the right receiver etc.

For a sophmore QB, JaMarcus has shown that he's pretty good with the decision process. He occassionally takes a sack he shouldn't, doesn't throw the ball away..., but he's learning & getting better.

He is a good quarterback right now, he will be great before he leaves.

I don't care if JR ever becomes a great QB. Remember Mauck was never considered to be a great Quarterback, but he won a lot more games than he lost. If JR does the same thing, I'm happy. Especially if he brings one of these :crystal: to BR. As long as he's winning, I don't care about his shortcomings.

He has been our most consistant WR. And Bennie has made good on his opportunities as well.

Bowe is our biggest scoring threat (given his height and size) but he hasn't always had full concentration.

Doucet is getting better, but he still has his flaws--namely with the drops.

Carter can have all the speed in the world, but he's got to learn how to bring in those "over-the-shoulder-lobs"--especially when he's used his speed to create seperation.
