I agree with all your points but somebody discussed ranking coaches and that's what I did. We can talk all day about what things have to happen to win a championship but still the fact is, somebody wins them and that's what they are judged on....for right or wrong.

I agree, looks to me like Florida has pretty darn good players. Just as many as LSU has IMO. It's just about having the better players in certain positions and quite frankly....it helps to have them juniors and seniors etc. But Florida has good players.

No but in your brain you may be arguing with me on this.

If you can stay on point here, I said it's a year to year deal, just like college football polls. Just because you were good in the 80s doesn't mean you are this year. What's hard to understand about that?

But no matter where you would have ranked Meyer before last year, this year he ranks higher because he has a title. A big title. Meyer looks a little better after demolishing OSU last year correct? Well let him go 6-6 for 5 years and he won't look as good and he'll move down the list. (Fulmer) He'll still have a title but in ranking coaches, (which is what the thread was about) he'll move down.

    A, B, C.....1, 2, 3.

Yep. :hihi: If they stick Tebow in the mouth, I'll be happy. But I'm happy now so who cares.

Fellers, I think it is both subjective and immaterial who is a better coach between Saban and Miles. What is important is is being an capable and successful coach. I mean hell, Charlie MacClendon was a better coach than Paul Dietzel, despite never winning a national championship.

If you want to list titles, then obviously Nick is the #1 trophy coach. If you want to list winning percentage, Les is #1 winning coach. I think Nick and Les are both capable and successful coaches. Nick has a national title. Les has a better winning percentage than Nick-at-Bama or Nick-at-LSU. "Better" is subjective.

Les has recruited better in his first three years at LSU than Nick did in his last three years at LSU. He out-recruited Nick-at-Bama in the last season, too. This is not Nick's team anymore. Les has proven that he could follow Nick at LSU. Nick himself is the one who must prove something now, namely repeating his LSU success at Bama. It wasn't just Nick that won that crystal football, it was Nick and LSU.

LSU is 26-4 without Nick. Nick is 17-18 without LSU.

I scanned the Vol board and how they are ranking coaches of the SEC. Amazing how low they are ranking Fulmer and how much CLM has risen in just one month. It seems their hate of Bama is equal to Bama's hate of Tennessee so it's hard to measure Saban's rank. Of course they have the same questions of why Bama paid so much for Saban with just a good record.

As far as CLM, he was hired as somewhat of an unknown just as Saban was when he came to LSU. They both grew into rolls here at LSU. Both coaches have thrived recruiting Louisiana, surrounding states and beyond. What's obvious to Tiger fans, becoming obvious to other fans is what a great staff CLM has assembled here at LSU. The atmosphere with Saban was intimidation and work till you drop. Under Miles it seems to be Team, Work Hard, Team, play everyone you can, Team, loyalty, Team, keep the other team off balance and guessing, TEAM! CLM has so much class in his way of letting all the coaches participate and coach the players. The players love CLM. They also respect other teams and their coaches. True character building. We have a class program.

It's always great to be a Tiger, it's great to be a Tiger in 2007. :thumb:

Craig, when it comes to the national media, NC's count the most but shouldn't. I can name several coaches with a NC that most would not consider top 5 coaching material...Carr, Coker, and Fulmer. A criteria in which an immense amount of luck is needed to attain(NC) should not be heavily used to measure a coaches worth, but it is. Now if we reach some sort of playoff system, my argument is somewhat moot.

Let me ask you this, if just one team (ranked above us in 03') doesn't lose a late season game, Saban is without a NC. Do you then put Richt above him? The luck bestowed upon us that year had nothing to do with Saban's coaching skills.
