Ronnie's scare-tactics aside, I don't think that any of you even know what socialism is. I found more truth and substance on the Sarah Palin bikini pictures link at the bottom of the page, which really lends an air of credibility to the website.
I've seen a lot of people on this board accuse everyone that has said anything about socialism of not even knowing what it is. What I haven't seen is any of these people attempt to define it themselves and defend that definition against what is happening now. I defined it, cited my source, and made pretty obvious and common sensical points about how we are moving in that direction in at least one other thread. As red would say, if you are going to make a statement about something, "make your case".
let's see your counter point is: Ronnie's scare tactics, no one knows what socialism is, and Sarah Palin bikini pictures. hhmmmmm the irony of this is, all this applys today and it isnt coincidence. Liberals in political office have been trying to pass this for years. sorry even dead double RR wins this debate. I'll take his word for it.
i majored in politcal theory. i know what socialism is. these folks know what socialism is. it is an economic system whereby the state owns and administers resources. social security, for example, is socialized old-person insurance, e.g. public ownership and administration of old-person insurance. national government-managed health care or insurance is "socialized" or government ownership and administration of health insurance. the obama plan, as i understand it, is exactly socialistic. of course. government management of health insurance (or anything) is exactly, explicitly, by definition, socialistic.
Socialism is when the government "controls" not plays a part in or administers a service. "Controls" is the key word. Just because the government is involved does not make it socialized. The word is being thrown around carelessly like the name "Hitler". Any one school of thought will turn this country into a sinkhole where no one would want to live. Keep it a true capitalist society and the gap would only widen between the rich and the poor, eventually eliminating the middle class where probably 99% on this board are classified. Turn to a true socialist government and, well... We see it didn't work out too well for the Soviets because people are people, which is to say they're selfish and don't like being told what to do. Eventually they'll have enough and their voice will be heard. We are a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way from this country turning into China. Corporate America would never let it happen anyway. It's being used like the previous administration tossed "9/11" around anytime they wanted to violate out civil liberties. It's a scare tactic, plain and simple and it's working. I don't see anyone returning social security or unemployment checks, refusing medicare/medicare, disability insurance, free lunches at school, etc.
"Congressman Ferrand said, if we can only break through and get our foot inside the door, they can we can expand the program after that." "James Madison in 1788, speaking to the Virginia Convention said: “Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.” " You just agreed with the premise that Reagan was making in JS's post....
I heard this when he played it Friday and really liked the way they "re-mixed" it to make it easier to listen to and entertaining at the same time giving you valuable information.
LMAO. If there was ever a post to sum up the reasons why Americans are so uneducated when it comes to legislation, this is it. We are either unable or lack the desire to digest information unless it comes with flashy graphics, background music or some other slick packaging Yep. Only I did it without being intellectually dishonest and trying to scare people into sharing my opinion.
