Positional battles add spice to Spring Game

The LSU football team will close out its 2005 spring practice season on Saturday, April 16 with a two-hour-long Spring Game, scheduled to begin in Tiger Stadium at 11:30 a.m.

The game is essentially the third of three scrimmages the Tigers will participate in under new head coach Les Miles, and will involve more simulated situational work than actual live game play.

“It will be more first-and-ten, less situational, not as heavy on the third downs, we hit those pretty hard the past three weeks,” Miles said. “We will bit-and-piece the third downs, maybe getting a little longer goal-line go. It will be ones-and-ones the whole day.

“What we’ve done is, the philosophy behind it, we’ll go ones-versus-twos and twos-versus-ones to start it off, for eight snaps; it’s more than anything an aggressive way to get warm, then we will go ones-on-ones for the rest of the day.” The format will mirror the one used in the first two scrimmages of the spring, both held in Tiger Stadium but closed to the public. The most recent, played on April 9, left Miles pleased with improvements the team had made since the opening scrimmage one week earlier.
