The papers had a list of the top 12 Christmas movies of all time the other day. It included "Die Hard", the argument being the story takes place at Christmas and Det. McClain is pushed into the action because he was invited to the Christmas party. The talking heads on all the ESPN2 shows have been arguing for 2 days over whether "Die Hard" should be considered a Christmas movie. I say it is not, because other than the reasons given above, Christmas has nothing to do with the story. "Lethal Weapon", I think, has a much better claim as a Christmas movie, because Martin Riggs' pain of spending his first Christmas without his wife is crucial in his character development, and helps to move the story. What say you...."Die Hard" or "Lethal Weapon" for Christmas?
If I have to watch a movie that's termed a Christmas movie I'd rather watch either one than one of the sappy ones. Fred Claus is a pretty good Christmas movie.
White Christmas...There is no better Christmas movie. Any movie that has the words, "Weirdsmobile" is the all time winner!
