From the St. Mary's football coach to an e-mail list of friends and family yesterday evening (Father's day):

Christopher Truax, the son of NW State Univ. O-Line coach Chris Truax, was unfort. killed in a boating accident this afternoon on Sunday in Lake Charles. Coach Truax was an Off. Lineman for LSU in the Archer and Hallman days. Christopher was going into the 4th grade at my school, St. Mary's, and was going to be a star in football. He was prob. close to 5 feet tall and weighed close to 150 lbs. and would have started on the elem. team here this year as a FOURTH GRADER. He would have been that good. Great kid and leader in the school who was well-liked by all the kids in his class and the entire school. Remember to keep the family in your prayers

Very sad. I can think of nothing more unfortunate than the untimely passing of a youngster. Sympathies to the Truax family.

    Parents.....hug your kids.
Young folks.....let your parents know you love 'em.
Life it too often too short.

What a waste. There was no reason for this chiild to die.

When will young people learn that they are not "bulletproof" and quit taking foolish risks. There is no way a boat should have been pulling a tube where boat docks were there.

Out of respect for the family please do not critisize this accident. It wasn't a case of a youth acting innapropriate.

The entire family was on hand when it occured and is a definite tragedy.

Chris was a great kid and one that I am blessed to have known personally. His loss is devastating to the entire Natchitoches community. What is family and friends need right now is support and not people giving F***ing critisism of the way he died. Please grow up and have some respect. It's bull**** to come on here and post some of the things that some of you have posted here. Please grow up and have some sympathy and understanding that some of us here were close to Chris and knew him.

I do kindly ask the moderaters to please delete any post on this thread that is not a positive post or one that celebrates Chris's life or that shows support to him or his family.

If you wish to make a post on this thread please celebrate this young mans excellent life and his excellent family (all which support and have played for the Tigers). DO NOT critisize his death or use it as an example, please.

Here is the info from NSUdemons.com along with contact info if anyone wants to give to the scholarship fund being set up in his honor to either NSU or LSU or both.

Visitation is Tuesday from 3-9 p.m. and funeral services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. for Christopher Truax II, the 11-year-old son of Northwestern State assistant football coach and former LSU football player Chris Truax of Natchitoches.

A boating accident Sunday afternoon in Sulphur claimed the life of the fourth-grade student at St. Mary's School in Natchitoches. He is survived by his parents, Chris and Michelle Truax, and a younger sister, Lexie, along with a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to a pair of scholarships established in Christopher's name at Northwestern and LSU. To contribute at Northwestern, contact assistant athletic director Charlie Vienne at 318-357-4295. To contribute at LSU, contact Rick Perry at the Tiger Athletic Foundation by calling 225-578-4823.

Visitation Tuesday will be at the Hixon Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, 2051 E. Napoleon Street in Sulphur. A rosary will be said at 7 o'clock.

The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 11 at the Henning Memorial United Methodist Church, 404 S. Huntington Street in Sulphur. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Sulphur.

The "Waddell Wall," the NSU Demon football team's offensive line, will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected] via e-mail. Christopher's parents met while attending college at LSU as his father played in the offensive line from 1987-91. Since graduating from LSU, the elder Truax has coached on the college level at McNeese State (1993-98), Louisiana-Monroe (1998-2002) and at Northwestern since January of 2002.

I feel terrible for the family. Losing a child is the absolute worst thing that could happen to anyone.

My post reflected my reaction to the story.

One member felt the need to red dot me saying it was "another arrogant post".

Over the years I have seen many youngsters die needlessly. It upsets me.

    The emperor has no clothes.

This is the 2nd or even third accident this spring on a LA river that involved tubes being "slung" around behind a boat and the rider losing their grip and hitting a stump or bank. I think this same thing happened two weeks ago on the Tickfaw. We were on the Tchefuncta (SP) this weekend and there were teenage boys and girls driving wave runners and boats doing the same thing on tubes but apparently no one got hurt.

We love taking our kids to the river and pulling them on tubes but it sure getting scary having your kids on these rivers.

Before you slam me for being negative... I emailed the family my condolences and I am sure they have more important things to do than to monitor this "chat board" this week. I am not slamming the family just pointing out that this is happening way too much on La rivers in the last few years; and for those of us on the river pretty regularly… getting to be of concern.
