I was a little drunk and don't recall the exact situation, but on one 3rd down and very long (or maybe it was a punt), Bama was called for defensive holding but it was not an automatic first down. I thought defensive holding was always an automatic first down.
I know the play you're talking about, and I thought the same thing. I was confussed as well about that.
no its not automatic in college just the nfl. it should be and is a beef of mine. the hold on LSU was pre change of possession (before the punt) so Bama was awarded the first down. i think it was 4th and 8 or so. i think it was 3rd and 23 when bama did it and so they marked off the 10 yards making it 3rd and 13.
Was at the game so it's hard to see a defensive hold. For those of you that watched it on the tube, how blatant was the hold and who was it on (if you remember)?
Since you saw the whole replay of the game, I could be wrong, but I thought the holding we were called for (on the gunner) was different from the one Sabanfan was talking about. But, in any case, I thought it was a B.S. call as well--considering that the guy was doubled and never got off the line.
yeah he was referring to bama's, i was just bitching about ours when we were called for holding their gunner as you described.
blatant. It was a screen pass to JV and they practically pulled Justin down while the ball was in the air.
You must be like me. Drinks are in order when it comes to these big games. It's the only way I can cope!
