I was just thinking about if NCAA football really had already went to this system. I believe LSU would have had a great shot to win the NC in 2001 and 2003. Nick Saban's teams always seem to come around at the middle point in the season. Does anybody else feel that in '01 we could have made a championship run at the end?
No doubt about it, that team was lethal on offense. One of the best offensive teams we've ever had at LSU. Its just too bad that college football doesn't have a playoff system and a ruins an awful good sport come the post season. Every other sport has a playoff, its like the college football system is still playing in the dark ages. :dis:
I could be perfectly content with the way things are set up right now if all teams in Div I-A played equal schedules. But since that doesn't happen, teams like USC, Miami, and West Virginia can coast into a title game, while teams like LSU, Georgia, and Oklahoma have landmines every week. It's really possible that the better team has a loss already while the weaker team is undefeated. (Again, see West Virginia) An eight team playoff, or even a four team playoff would be enough to gather all the teams with a real claim to being the best, and that would be fine by me. Anyone who's lower than No. 8, or even No. 4 has no real claim to being National Champ anyway.
