Curtis. Evangel will be playing a 1A schedule and Curtis a 2A. Evangel might score 100 in the first half vs some of those poor teams.

Man that's crazy. I played Evangel back in 91-92 when they were class A. They had really just started getting good back then. Heck I even intercepted Booty. Sorry, I had to use the "B" word here.

What is the reasoning for that, Enrollment?

No team in 1A with Evangel or 2A with John Curtis will have a chance until this group moves on,somthing needs to be done maybe slowly bring them down a class a year,or make the players transfer to thier local schools or something it wont be fair to the small schools for a couple of years, thats an UNDERSTATEMENT!

Why are both schools having to move down in classification?

The LHSAA passed a rule last year (that goes into effect in 2005) that schools could no longer "play up" without the approval from the schools in that classification.

Much debate as to why, but many feel like it's to punish schools like Evangel and Curtis. Here's a good read from The Opelousas Daily World last year...

Haven't done much homework, but it seems that some schools were granted approvals to play up. Strongest case would seem that Evangel and Curtis would be allowed to do so. Not sure of the politics of the situation, though.

Excuse me for stating the obvious but if the records weren't what they are, that is, both Evangel and Curtis with numerous state championships, nobody else would care where or if they played. This is just the tip of the public vs. private/parochial school iceberg.

There was considerable debate and a proposal that the LHSAA voted down last year that would have separated the private/parochial schools into their own league. In other words, the public schools would have competed only with other public schools, all of which must conform to attendance zones (or so they say  ) This latest move is sure to fan the flames of that longstanding debate.

I can see it now....End of the first quarter Evangel 77, Sarepta 0

Why you gotta pick on Sarepta? We beat Evangel once!

Who cares if it was in 1989! Their 1st season.
