Is history to repeat itself? Everyone knows we passed on Spurrier before he took the Florida job and if I am not mistaken we also passed on Bowden (Bobby) at some point as well. While no one can be absolutely positive that Petrino is the next great college coach, I feel he may be our best chance at establishing a program that can maintain the current success long term . I was, like many, hoping for Butch Davis, who has indicated that he is planing on sitting out the 2005 season. I am very adamant about not wanting Houston Nutt. I have no faith in Nutts ability to recruit nor do I see where he brings any special ability to excel at any facet of the game. He does tend to motivate lesser players, at this time, not a concern for this team. I would hate to pass on Petrino in order to go the safe route or just to land a big name for names sake. This is obviously just my opinion, and I really do not know enough about candidates such as Myles or Tedford to discount there ability to run the LSU progam.
I would like to at least offer the job to Spurrier and have him turn it down. The buyout could be taken out of his first year salary and even with that we could certainly pay him more over the life of the deal than the lousy 7 year - $8.75 million that South Carolina is paying him. I like alot of the people mentioned especially Petrino and Del Rio. I would be okay with Nutt or Miles.
