June 21 2005 Tuesday Question If USC isn't in the Rose Bowl, who will be? Who might ruin USC's season? Pete Fiutak Q: If USC doesn't go to the Rose Bowl ... 1) Give the Rose Bowl matchup and 2) who will the Trojans lose to (if they don’t get to Pasadena)? A: If USC doesn't go to the Rose Bowl ... To play for the national title, you need to have a combination of a great team (duh) with a schedule that has a few big games, but isn't too much of a killer. With that in mind, I have five teams on my radar (if USC doesn't get to Pasadena.) PLEASE remember that these aren't necessarily the five best teams going into the season (I'm talking to you Ohio State fans), but these are five teams with the best chance. 1) LSU - As I've stated before, LSU has as much talent as anyone in the country, and that includes USC, with the most NFL prospects. With all due respect to a road game against Alabama, LSU gets the biggest games on the slate in Death Valley.... This guy is the ONLY guy predicting LSU to win it all this year...
Very Smart.... ESPN wont have one who will ever pick us b/c they hate us... Would you believe that Trev Albert on ESPN news picked up THIRD in the west? lol
Alberts is an a-hole...Plain and simple. He's so pissed off that his career didn't blossum into a Hall of Fame path.
i'm very glad to see non-LSU fans picking us, but it would be real hard for me to lay down money on any SEC team with a new coach (LSU & UF) for NC.
Its funny, the comparison between Mayer and Miles.. Mayer is the savior of Florida, he is supposed ot win the NC in his first year, with mediocre talent in every position but QB and WR.. if he doesnt win big this year, its ok.. its his first year in the SEC, its a complicated system, etc... as for Miles, everyone isnt sure about, even though he will have, on paper, arguably the best team in the country.. if he doesnt win big, then its because he just isnt Saban, and LSU football is going back to the bad ol' days...
Fiu is not afraid to go his own way with his analysis, so this isn't so surprising. What's interesting to me is he gives real justification as to why LSU is his pick but the other two basically say Florida "just because" and Tennessee without mentioning the brutal schedule, recurring injury issues and the not-too implausible scenario of not having 22 players not in jail come September in order to field a starting lineup.
