Pelosi would not allow an up or down vote on drilling and only offered tapping the strategic reserve(a whole 700 million barrels) as a solution. Despite public pressure she repeatedly blocked any effort at a vote. You can here her stammering explanation in the video below, culminating with her screeching "we have to save the planet".

But now............Obama mentioned he would consider OCS drilling(conditionally, but doesn't name conditions), and left her and Reid twisting in the wind. He is right to do this but it shows her to be the jackass she really is. Now she has changed her stance. Apparently saving the planet is not on the menu today, but oil subsidies are. I'm not a fan of subsidies either but this woman is an embarrassment. I know the dems have plenty of more people better qualified than this stuttering mouthpiece.

At what point does America look at Congress and demand a "do over"? I can't believe any of these guys get paid to squawk at each other. It's depressing.

You really have a thing for Pelosi, don't you?

Look, she's a politician from a environmentally conscious state and has a long track record on the issue from the point of view of a California representative with an environmental constituency.

Now, she's got a national constituency as well and must try to accomodate national interests without losing her job as a California representative. So she must appear to reluctantly go along with offshore drilling. She knows that California is on the wrong side of the issue, but she's a smart politician and when the situation changes, smart people change their views.

Stupid politicians "stay the course" and ride the hellbound train.

You don't have a position for me on the poll. I support drilling offshore for sure and I support drilling in the ANWR only if environmental impacts are minimized with new technologies that big oil resists. I also think that it may be smart in the long term to save our few remaining reserves for the future and deplete the middle east while oil is still gettable from there.

Drill like the wind. The environmental impacts of drilling are a facade.

Yeah, she is too hot for words.

I'm not impressed. This is a lead, follow, or get run over issue. She ignored it this summer and is now being run over.

Now you know her mindset? She is cleverly playing congress and the American people because she is so smart? I don't see that. I only see partisanship and she is now backed into a corner. Like I said, there must be plenty of better qualified dems to tackle the biggest issue for Americans today - energy. I would not pick anyone from California to do that.

i think she is looking to the election, to know who the next pres. is. if obama, she will defer the vote till he's in, and try to pass something comprehensive, allow drilling, but also get funds to build access to wind centers, solar research, nat. gas infrastructure.

if so, she needs to say it. she looks bad.

being from cali., she may also be rep'ing her state.

Sounds good but it's BS. Her problem with drilling the OCS and/or ANWR is that the oil biggies stand to make even more money. That's not an opinion...I heard her say it.

In other words, Obama is in the midst of getting his azz kicked and she's got to do something.

She was waiting for the election all right, but had no intention of allowing a vote on drilling. Waiting until after would have insured her newly elected dems would be safe for awhile. The fact that so many people screamed for it, and Obama changing his position is forcing her to act before the elections. She definitely ain't happy.

Political climate? You mean voter outrage? Kind of like how nobody really complains about the weather until there is a hurricane that causes damage?
