I'm convinced that the republicans want Obama to win for some reason. Maybe some drastic event is on the horizon and they want him to be the fall guy for a broken political system.

NO, Ryan is committed to actually planning for social security and medicare costs; something the White House and most Democratic members of Congress have avoided talking about.

Of course, Ryan actually making social security and medicare work right really means Repubes are evil and want to end the world.

Just my opinion but I think that Romney got a lot of pressure from the ultra conservative wing of the party to pick a party hard liner like Ryan. Conservatives are convinced that they can win a majority of voters if they simply stick to their ideological purity. It is, perhaps, the most critically wrong estimation that they have made to this point. Their reasoning is that it worked for Reagan, but they fail to realize that their agenda and Reagan's are light years apart. Romney essentially sealed his fate with this pick. Ryan will solidify the conservative vote but Romney was going to get them regardless because of their hatred for Obama. That said, Ryan will do absolutely nothing to help him win independent voters, especially those who stand to suffer from the proposed cuts to medicare and social security. I am in favor of spending cuts to those two programs but not to the extent that he has proposed. Further, Ryan's budget leaves defense virtually untouched and balancing the budget is impossible without spending cuts to all three. Don't think for one second that Ryan's votes for medicare part D and the bush tax cuts are going to receive a lot of attention from the Obama campaign and it will not be pretty.

The worst thing Romney could do was to select a staunchly conservative white male from a non battle ground state.

The economy is first and foremost on the agenda. Ryan has a plan that he's laid out. Barry hasn't laid out anything. More promises That will lead to more borrowing, more spending and higher taxes.Obamacare: Obama Ends Medicare As We Know It

I can see the debate now; on one side is Paul Ryan with a copy of his budget proposal in hand; and on the other is Veep Biden with a copy of . . . WAIT, the Dems haven't passed a budget in 3 years! Biden has nothing to work with but Bull Shit!! Oh, its OK. He has lots and lots and lots of experience at having nothing but BS. :)

Rubio would have been a better pick for him. Rubio could have delivered Florida, made him competitive in New Mexico and Colorado and, with the swelling latino population in NC, could have likely tipped NC to Romney. all of these together would still not give Romney the election but it is a hell of a lot closer than with Ryan who delivers nothing.
