Interesting: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=insidedishpaternotalksqb&prov=tsn&type=lgns Call me crazy, but I wouldn't help out other coaches for fear that they may use my advice against me at some point in the future.
It shows you the kind of respect coaches like Paterno have for Les Miles, which is a good thing. I'm all for it, especially since its a guy like JoePa, after all they do want to learn from the best, right? :geauxtige
My dad was a high school coach for 30 years. Back in the late '70's, he was installing a new defense and had seen Paterno speak about it at the LHSAA coaching clinic the month before. So, my dad thought, I'll write to him and see if I get a response. Five days later, Paterno's entire defensive playbook arrived at my dad's office, complete with handwritten notes on every single play against every single conceivable offense. Sandusky, his DC for years, had written the notes. Paterno earned by dad's undying loyalty with that action, so I'm not surprised he'd help out another coach (even at the college level). As it was, my dad said he couldn't have been of any use to Paterno for recruiting, as he doesn't remember Paterno ever recruiting Louisiana. He was used to Charlie Mac, etc. getting to know him well, but he was very impressed with JoePa.
Maybe, maybe not. But I was pretty much referring to the statement that said Paterno is one of a "handful of coaches". I hope one of those coaches wasn't Pete Carroll, b/c I don't want him using any of Les' secrets against us in next year's BCS National Championship Game!!!:thumb:
can i get a copy? joepa is the greatest. always has been. i like the people who say he no longer coaches, a la bobby bowden who never really did per se. obviously they dont watch that crazy bastard on the sidelines. of course a little senility may be setting in.
Talking w/ other coaches is very common during the offseason (well, out of conference coaches from other parts of the country, that is). It's a great sign for LSU, as coaches tend to visit those who are really innovative and efficient---that's why Rich Rodriguez had so many visit Morgantown last offseason, including NFL types like Jim Mora Jr, to check out the spread option.
You ARE cute, I'll give you that. While I think PC and LM have a healthy respect for one another, I don't think you'll find them breaking bread anytime soon. Give it a few years. I will say that from what I'm hearing we are VERY lucky to have hired Saints Asst Coach John Morton as our WR coach. Reports from practice have been good. I'll let you know tomorrow after I see it for myself.
I just read about it...what an excellent idea! JoePa and Miles are my two favorite college football coaches (of course), and it's good to see them working together! (Of course, this probably means it will be PSU vs. LSU in the BCSNCG this year...lol)
