Of our 34 sacks last year, we lost 10 to the NFL draft. 2 seniors to be exact. The rest return......

Of Oregon's 33 sacks, 20 were from seniors......

Of LSU's 88 tackles for a loss, 26 were from seniors

Of Oregon's 96 tackles for a loss, 60 were from seniors

Of LSU's top 10 players with tackles, 2 were seniors. +1 JR in PP who left

Of Oregon's top 10 players with tackles, 6 were seniors.

Notice a trend here. Can you not see the youth that made a real difference last year?

We are excited about our talent lvl at D'line. We had some key injuries on D last year as well as some key freshman this year expected to make an impact....

Oregon's DL will most likely have the advantage, being they will stuff the box to shut down our rushing game (since our passing game isn't much of a threat). also, our D plays better against physical, pro-style or i-form type offenses and struggles against spread-type teams that use a lot of quick slants, draws, screens, misdirection, etc.

as for Oregon's DL, they return one starter at DE and i assume they will replace the other three with:

--that 321-lb DT, Ricky Heimuli. he was one of the best DT recruits in the nation from the '09 high school seniors, and had offers to Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Nebraska, Michigan, Tennessee, Michigan State, Stanford, UCLA, Washington, West Virginia Colorado, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, BYU, Utah, Washington State

--DT Jared Ebert (285), who was the #8 overall JUCO recruit last year (Mettenburger was #17). he was a 4-star and he had offers to TCU, Penn State, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa State, Washington State

--DE Dion Jordan, who is supposed to be a freak-of-nature athlete just like Mingo. he was a 4-star recruit and got offers to Nebraska, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Oregon St, Washington

Yep, that approach worked out great for all those teams that did that last year. Considering that our OL is nearly intact from that campaign, I see no reason why opposing teams wouldn't keep doing it.

I actually agree with this. Chavis' scheme seems disproportionately unprepared for spread offenses. But, Auburn gave us the blueprint, so I'm hopeful that he can make the adjustments.

Sounds like a lot of hype and very little experience. Going up against one of the top OLs in the country, on the road, in a huge game? I expect the lack of experience to be glaring.

I hate to say it but this makes me think about the La tech game and the Auburn game last year. I would hope nothing like both of those games follow. I will say that Cam was the deal for the Auburn game. He had many H :crystal: moments in that game.

LSU returns 24 of their top 30 tacklers from last years team, 3 starters lost.

LSU played 23 True or Redshirt Freshmen(This includes walkons) this past year. Thats a young team.

ETA: LSU has 54 players that have lettered.

This past year we had 6 returning starters on offense and 4 on defense, an still won 11 games.

    We lost:
    Brandon LaFell
    Chad Jones
    Keiland Williams
    Charles Scott
    Trindon Holliday
    Richard Dickson
    Harry Coleman
    R.J.Jackson
    Chris Hawk
    Danny McCray
    Jacob Cutrera
    Lyle Hitt
    Perry Riley
    Rahim Alem
    Ciron Black
    Chris Mitchell
    Al Woods
    Charles Alexander

Vinson ended the Spring game with 10 tackles and an Int.

Logan had 6 tackles in the Spring game.

Logan and Vinson have a good handle on the defense.

Of the 16 returning players on defense, only one (Ron Brooks, but he did play in every game) never started a game last year. Getting back a healthy Sam Montgomery and Brandon Taylor, along with one of the top DLinemen in the nation coming out of high school (The Freak), one would think we should be ok on this side of the ball.

These LSU players should handle what comes at them.

    Oregon
    Returning DL/LB TOP 25:
    # 8 SO Clay LB, - 42
    # 10 FR Lokombo LB, - 36
    # 12 Dion Jordan DL, – 33
    # 13 JR Kaddu DL, - 32
    #14 JRTurner DL, 32
    #20 FR Hart DL, 18
    #21 FR Keliikipi DL, - 18
    #22 JR Hanna DL, 18
    Total : 229
    5 DL who played/return
    2 LB’s

DT Ricky Heimuli – 9 tackles total, 4 solo
    DT Jared Ebert – 0

These combined tackles of a team tackle of 978
Because I am bored, here is the total of tackles made by seniors:
444, mind you that 360 came from 6 of the top 10 tacklers who were seniors, 3 of which were DL and 2 LB’s…….

LSU had only 246 tackles of 959 by seniors

    Now on to LSU
    Top 25 in tackles------DL / LB ONLY!!
    959 Total tackles
    Returning DL/LB:
    # 2 Baker LB,– 87
    # 9 Francois LB,– 37
    # 10 FR Mingo DL,– 35
    #13 JR Adams DL, - 27
    # 14 FR Brockers Dl, - 25
    # 19 SO Edwards DL, - 21
    # 22 FR Montgomery DL, - 18
    # 23FR Minter LB, - 15
    # 25 Downs DL, - 10
    Total DL/LB : 275
    6 DL who played/return
    3 LB’s

So looking at the top 25 of DL/LB’s returning/played for each team, LSU had 1+ DL play and 1+ LB play and 46 more tackles…

It is key to note that of the top 25 for LSU, only Montgomery played less than 11 games, he only played in 5….

    Random stats:

Vs. ranked teams, LSU’s D came in at 28th - Oregon was 87th
Vs. BSC AQ, LSU came in at 18th, - Oregon was 53rd

your point is that we reload and this year we don't have to reload like we did in 2010 ! I agree 100% with this team being strong day one and we have a plan B at qb that we did not have last year!

Actually, if my memory serves me correctly, I think that game was the same day as the actual worst-reffed game in CFB history...LSU vs Auburn 2006.
