If you guys can stomach a NYT feature, I thought this was pretty good, and in fact, kind of explains the terrible choices faced by us at Presidential election time. As I have stated for a long time, I am voting for neither, since I am convinced the democratic process CANNOT and WILL NOT fix the ills of this country. That being said, I thought this was illuminating, though discouraging. Pretty much you cannot escape, "you get what you pay for." http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...ackage-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news
That's the way it always is. Voter turnout is never very high for primaries. It wouldn't matter if Jesus was running against Mother Theresa
IF it was a popular vote, more people would care. ITs a shit system that yields shit results. Go figure.
It's the exact same system that our forefathers put together so please spare me the "system" routine. The system was fine in 2000 when GWB lost the popular vote but won the electoral college right? Just like you....when things don't go your way, find a conspiracy to make it all make sense
Conspiracy? It's common. Knowledge a lot of the US doesn't feel they have a voice. Even your gay poll tracker thread shows where the votes matter.
They climbed a pole to use the telephone, oil lamps for lighting and hitched a team of horses to go to town. Doesn't mean that would work today.
The reasons the electoral college was established in 1789 are still valid today. The authors recognized to be successful we needed a system that required a broadly based vote across state lines. The electoral college provides such balance. We were never meant to be a democracy.
The electoral college system just means that if you live in a state where your candidate has no chance your vote means nothing. Too bad NC doesn't live in Louisiana
