"State Rep. Tommy Benton just lost the pothead vote.

A NORML member e-mailed Benton urging him to decriminalize the weed"

    Benton's response--

“We will have to agree to disagree on this and whether or not money is wasted. I am opposed to the legalization of marijuana. I think we should go to caning for people caught using and maybe execute dealers. That would solve the problem as well. That is what they do in Singapore and they don’t have a drug problem.”

He went on to threaten to turn the e-mailer in to the authorities:

“You don’t want to legalize weed because of your conservative values. Pardon my French but that is a big old pile of bull crap. You and your cronies want it legalized so you can get a hit anytime without having to worry about getting arrested. I have forwarded your email to the Lowndes County sheriffs office so that they can be on the lookout for you. Consider this my last correspondence on the the subject to you or anyone else who shares your similar “conservative views’.”"

He has a right to his position and I don't have a problem with his response, but turning the guys name over to the PD was going to far IMO.

and people have pictures of obama with hitler moustache? classic example of an elected official who think's his moral values are more important than people's rights. this guy is a pure nutbag. He is talking about caning and murdering innocent civilians, over a plant. its people like this guy who give this country a bad name, i really feel sorry for people living in georgia, and i wish i could feel some sort of empathy for the people who elected him, but i can't. makes me wonder what his vices are, hookers, alcohol?

you know, i wonder what his position would be if he witnessed someone he loved get cancer, and the only thing that helped them was pot. i wonder how he would feel about it then. its really scary that voters elect people like this, wonder if he would say that about the founding fathers who used cannibas. People like Bill Hicks, John Lennon, and Chris Farley are dead but this guy walks freely upon the earth, that is all the proof i need that there is no god.

no it doesn't cure cancer, chemotherapy can causes people to get sick, and vomit, and not be able to eat, making them weak, and bed ridden, but a little mary jane can give people an appetite, act as a pain killer, and can really improve the quality of life of a person who receives chemotherapy. A natural plant, imagine that. Makes me wonder what pharmaceutical companies think of a natural plant that humans can grow themselves, that could replace a bunch of addictive man made pills, why in the world would they not want that to be legal? It never has and never will be about safety, or people, its about industries seeing their profits shrink. I bet if you look into mr. benton's campaign contributors you will find drug reps.
